I have the Sony S-550 in the main HT, and the Panny BD-80 in the bedroom HT. There are things I like about each one. I think overall it's about even between the two, both are fantastic players.

Would you have went with the Pioneer 51fd considering the price? I wonder what sounds best 7.1 analog or using HDMI. I'll have to try it one day.
Congrats on the purchase.

Yep,,,,Looks like a great player and $50.00 bucks less that I paid.

Cool, I like the Sony players-Did you have to do a Firmware update
on the 550 to do DTS Master Audio?

Nope, My Anthem AVM does not have HDMI inputs.
The Hi-Rez over the analog sounds great, but I think the HDMI is the way
to go.

No. I got my S-550 after they added that feature. I wasn't going to buy a BD player until they had all the codecs added. I'm not giving up my B&K AVR with its fantastic sound, so I needed the analog out capability.

Everything I've read about the Panny BD80 has been superb. Sounds like a great unit for the money.
