I've been searching through the old archives, and still wasn't able to find the answer. I've heard only good things about the Harmony One, and this might be my next purchase. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but here's my question.

To anyone who owns this remote, and does NOT have a HDMI AVR, and have to switch sources on your TV for video. Can you program the Harmony One to switch to the right input?

For example: My Playstation 3 will be hooked up via HDMI to the TV, and optical cable to the receiver for sound. Pretend on my TV, the PS3 is on "Source 3." Can you program the remote to: Turn on the TV, switch to "Source 3," and turn on the Receiver to the CORRECT source?

Another question arises while I'm typing. Pretend you're watching a movie (PS3) and your favorite basketball/football/baseball game is on TV at the same time. Will you be able to switch back and forth using the Harmony One without shutting anything off? Is there a function that you can program to do so?

Thanks so much guys!

Just realized, I posted this in the wrong section, I meant to put it in "Electronics"

Definitely yes to the former - I do this with my Harmony 880, and I'm sure the One does it as well. You can set a function ("Watch TV") to do as many different things as you want - change to the correct input your receiver, turn on your DVD player, change to the correct input on your TV, dim the lights.... any combination of things that have a remote control.

As for the latter, it will probably take some tweaking but I'm sure you can do it. By default the remote software will try to shut things off if you're not using them; IE when I switch from "watch a DVD" to "watch TV", it shuts my DVD player off. But everything is customizable so with a little thinking and work you should be able to get it to do what you want.

Well that didn't take long.

Quick response, quick help. Thanks Bob!

+1 to what bobman said. I have the One and it can do just about everything that you want it to. Very easy to program and set up, perfect combo of touch screen and actual buttons.

If the macros aren't set right the first time, you can always go in and add a function (switching a source) or add an extra step if you want.

May take about 30-60 minutes to fully set up and add your components (depending on how many you have), but it's definitely worth it once you get it set.

Another vote for yes from me. I have the 880 and that thing will do just about anything. The software is a bit "clumbsy" but it can be fine tuned to do just about anything you can imagine, in any order you choose. The Macros are great and can be fine tuned with the included software in about an hour or so from start to finish.

Yes, I also do this with my 880 to control an AVR, dvd player, projector, tv and so on. I do agree that the software is lacking though.

Kind of a random thread to pick to spam, lol. However, I am glad it got brought back to life because my 880 died a few days ago and am now considering the Harmony One as a replacement. I am familiar with the 880, but how much different is the One? Any feeback from One owners? I know I want a Harmony, just curious if I should "upgrade" to the Harmony One, or get another 880?

Hey Jeff, I'm not familliar with the 880 but I think the one might be a decent upgrade. The included software was real easy to use and the entire setup only took me about 20 min or so.

Cool, thanks junior. Will probably do a little more polling/research but it looks like the One will be the next addition to the HT.

I should be buying mine sometime this month. I keep checking Amazon.com, and the price changes every so often. I saw it at a low of $179.99. Highest I saw: $210. Average: $200.

Cool thanks Fitty, believe it or not Best Buy online has it cheapest right now at $195. So I'll keep sniffing around. That's about $20 more than I paid for my 880 about 3 years ago so not much of a price jump there.

Actually on Best Buy, they are selling it for $179.99 but it's back ordered. :)

I'm going to wait maybe a month to see if the price will drop.

Hmm, seems to be some confusion if it will actually work with the Price Match and the Bing cash back.... I'm a few months away from the upgrade, but thanks for the heads up.
