Hey Folks,

Looking for some smart ideas here. My wife just bought me a set of RC80i roof mount speakers. I am placing them in the room in the far end of my home and want to feed music to them via my PC at the other end of the house.

Can anyone think of a smart way of connecting these up to my PC so I can play my iTunes tracks on them? I am looking for any ideas and don't want to spend a fortune.

The only way I can think of is put an amplifier next to my PC, run a feed from my PC to the amp and then run a LOAD of cable from the PC all the way to the speakers.

Anyone got any better ideas?

Thanks

Welcome to Club Polk.
I'm sure we can help, but we need some info:
How far a distance are we talking?
Do you plan on adding anymore speakers in the ceilings of any other rooms?
Does your pc have a digital rca, or fiber optic output?
The more info we have, the better to save you some sweat & $$$.

Thanks for replying! Here are some answers to your questions.

1. Distance - Around 10m - 15m roughly.
2. More Speakers - I plan to add another set of speakers in one other room as well.
3. Outputs - There is a SPDIF RCA type output and also a Optical output too.

Thanks again for the reply, look forward to hearing some ideas.

Well the 1st thing I'd recommend, is 'Monoprice' cable, 14/2 CL2 speaker cable.

http://www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp

You have a couple of options, depending on which way you want to go:

1. Get a mid-level avr, with a 'zone 2' output, usually rca's, and run those to a multi-channel amp, closer to the end of the house with the in ceiling speakers. And run your speaker cables off of that.

2. Again, getting a mid level AVR, and using the speakers terminals, and just run 2 pairs of wires from that avr, to each room. Most avr's allow multi channel stereo.

If you want individual volume control for each room, they make those as well.
