Adding Polk woofer and tweeter to RT8

Greetings:
I hope to add a 6 1/2 in. Polk woofer and 1 in. tweeter to my existing RT8 tower. First, I wish to know if it is possible? Second, I require instruction for the project. If someone can help, great. If someone can point me in the correct direction for information, that is also great. Thank you

It's not as easy as you may think. You're probably better off selling them and buying something else.

It seems that there have been a lot of great deals for speakers on Craigslist as of late, you might look for an upgrade there rather than taking the risk with modding your RT8's.

I would not attempt it. The enclosure is already tuned for the drivers currently installed in it. You would have to rework the crossover AND change the internal volume and port tuning. It would be easier actually to build an enclosure from scratch, which still would take quite a bit of time

Hey Gary welcome to CP.

As has been, said adding a couple more drivers is, unfortunately, not as simple as one would think/ hope. I know I have thought about it...lol

First you need to get the design specs of the mid-range drivers and the tweeters.
Unfortunately, Polk does not publish those. You can try contect them and see if they will give it to you. I know others here have gotten some help from them.
Next you need to get some speaker design software. Check on PartExpress, they sell several.
Once you have all the data, you would then design/ redesign the speaker for the new parameters.
I do not know what software to use for redesigning the cross-overs.
I am sure there are some available.
I know, alot huh/

All that being said..IF what you are looking for is to increase the clarity and responsiveness of your speakers, then
Just upgrade the Cross-overs with new capacitors and resistors.
It is fairly easy and will enhance your speakers considerably.

just look for your speakers.
I would suggest the SoniCaps Gen I, although I have not jumped in on mine yet, they are a good bang for your buck for under $100.

I would also consider upgrading some of the other elements on your sourse to speaker path. upgrading speaker wires, IC power cables, all can add to you "End product"

(you must have some "pull" with Polk...lol)

I have seen the MW7010's on ebay (the 'marvin guy) and "I thought" he said in his ads that they were from RT12's...He also lists the specs for them, and I have wondered about those MW's.
