Cross over settings

I have an Onkyo TX SR-806 with all Polk speakers.. RTiA7 fronts, CSiA6 center, FXiA6 surrounds and DSW pro 500 sub. I have the cross over set at 80Hz for all. I can't tell a lot of difference regardless of setting. Does 80Hz sound right for my set up?

80Hz is usually right for just about every setup.

Yep, 80Hz works great with Movies.

If you want a more specific answer, typically you want to set the crossover at least a half-octave above the speaker's -3dB point to ensure that the speaker has time to transition to the subwoofer. You could get away with setting your RTiA7s down to 60Hz, but at the expense of headroom from your 806 (because reproducing deeper bass at the speaker requires more power from the receiver). Crossing them at 80Hz shares the load between the receiver and the subwoofer's amp nicely, so I'd stick with that if you're primarily doing movie watching.

The only deviation from that would be the LFE channel and that should be set to at least 120hz (or higher) if at all possible. Some AVR's do not have settings for LFE and in that case - stick with the 80hz all the way around - but I am pretty sure your Onk does have it.

Another benefit of letting your sub take care of the bass (below 80hz) even if your speakers can play lower is that typically your sub is set in a place that has the best bass sound. That may not be true with your other speakers as they are more placed for best full range sound (and often where they look the best).
