They are for sure either b's or c's, I thought someone here mentioned only the c's came in the real wood tops? I will need confirmation from others if this is true, but either way they look really good!

They are SDA 1C's, not the studio versions but the version just before that. Very nice, I definitely love my pair but think the RD0 upgrade is needed to really enjoy them at high volumes...unless you like bright tweeters.

Bright tweeters are great if you are a saxophonist like myself and you want to hear Michael Brecker and David Sanborn the way they sound live. The RDO's are a little too tame to capture their fury.

Just for the record,,I did not mean to imply that those are the studio's,, here is a pic of the "OTHER" SDA1C
Actually,, the one to the far left is a SDA 1C w/end cap,,the black one is the studio version.

The RDO's are a little too tame to capture their fury. The 194s do sound a bit tame at first, but with some break in and the right ICs they get all the life the SL2000s had without the hissy sibilance or high frequency ringing that aging 2000s are known for. A good pairing with 194s are Ben's ICs. I was using Dbacks and Corals (very close) for years, plugged Ben's cables into my rig and the highs opened up. They've gotten better ever since. It's been about a year or more and they still get better.

Something a lot of folks don't know, all 1C's are studio versions. Polk added the cloth sides and wood end caps over the black vinyl cabinets to make the upscale version.

Very interesting to know... So conversion one way or the other wouldn't be too difficult...

Well, you certainly can't go back to the studio from the upscale version due to the cloth sides being attached with glue and the end caps attached with glue and big ass staples. Going the other direction is doable, but cost wise finding a pair done up already would be much cheaper.

I did not know that,, so the actual cabinet that houses all the drivers,,etc,, are the same?

Yes, the actual cabinet is the same. However, the bezel is slighly different with the PR (not sure about the drivers) moved slightly upwards to allow for the kick plate on the studio version.
