Frank, let me know how you like Dave "What's New" it is one of the future buy if I stumble into it....

Bought Fourplay "Fourplay" DVD-A, Warner Bros. Awesome recording, it's been on auto repeat since a couple hours ago. Great music for a rainy day, as it is now...

oh yeah, the classic Stanley "Full Metal Jacket." It has been on the list for a while, and been watching it so many times on HBO rerun, finally had an excuse to own a copy yesterday. I bought a copy of Silverline Dizzy Gillespie "Matrix" DVD-A, turned out to be a lousy transfer/remaster on the advanced resolution layer, with a lot of crackling noises in the background (track 11 thru 15), swapped it back for another copy, same problem. So, traded in with FMJ, no regrets!

Took my wife shopping. A k-mart was closing in Oakland, CA and she bought baby closes with her aunt for 3 hours. Ok deals are great but hey the DVD counter did not have any real cheap bargains. BTW ATC Venom, you should be here in California. Just filled up with 91 octain and paid $2.43 a gallon. Boy do we like Bush. Fill up cost about $35.00. Can I fill up at your station instead?

Damn, and I thought 1.79 a gallon for 93 octane was pushing it. Then again, my Mustang gulps the juice down, so it seems like I'm always filling the thing.

Sheesh, 20 bucks doesn't even fill it to the top anymore.

Polkatese,
Pretty darn good! Very subtle use of the surround channels. This is the first Dave Brubeck I've listened to and I have to admit I like it. It's not really finger snappin', toe tappin jazz, but definetly worth a listen for any jazz fans.

The Yes DVD-A is also surprisingly well done. The liner notes give a brief insight into how this album originaly came about and was actually quite interesting.

Elvis in multichannel takes a little getting used to though, used it to teach the kids how to Jitter Bug last night....What a riot!!

I'm really impressed with Midnight Radio. It is sort of "live" and has a really interesting sound. Here is what the album insert says

We thought it would be nice to record a project which the sounds captured were as real as possible. For half a year, we spent a great deal of time traveling, recording in every available circumstance, both with and without audiences. Trying to capture the spontaneity and humanity these recordings were recorded and mixed live to a two-track digital recorder, without overdubs or remixes

Well worth a listen . The cuts "Bittersweet" and "Midnight Radio" are very good.

I have just skimmed quickly through "Beautiful World" but it too sounds like a winner.

The best part is I picked up both of these at a used CD store for a total of $3.35 (tax included) in perfect condition except for the jewel boxes. A true bargain!

I would recommend both to any Big Head Todd fan.

Frank,
thanks for the feedback on "What's New", most likely you are going to like "Time Out" then, it's a standad for many many years. Another one would be the 40th anniversary, both available on SACD...

I bought myself a round of golf. It was the best round I've ever played. First time I could chip with loft consistently. It was also the first time I've been a little sad the round didn't last longer and was never looking forward to being done with that damned sport.

dylan - I just gave Beautiful Day a thorough listen this evening and I can say without a doubt this is is best $1.85 CD I have ever purchased.

Seriously...This is a really nice CD. I have not yet heard Sister Sweetly but this one and Midnight Radio have made me a Big Head Todd fan. Man..these guys have influences from all over the board. You can hear Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top, Dire Straits, Outlaws and others throughout this album (I may be imagining this but the sounds seem unmistakable to me). "Resignation Superman", "Caroline", "Helpless", "Tower", and "Boom Boom" are very good cuts with the rest not far behind. The CD is nicely balanced with every song a little different both in pace and style. This one will definitely get more play time and Sister Sweetly is on the short list.

Shack,

Where'd you snag Beautiful Day for $1.85... half.com?? Can't tell from the above if you liked it or not. If it was not exactly your thing, I'd be happy to take it off of your hands.

I spent the weekend with Nanci Griffith. The Maggies loved her and so did my Lady...

My Col Hse intro picks showed as well.
Halloween - THX remaster
Pitch Black - Director's Cut
Die Hard - THX Remaster
Teminator - Special Edition
The Fifth Element
Jurassic Park - Collector's Ed.
... and they owe me one... Bastards list 7 but packed 6....

Biggest haul tho is coming out of Canada via ebay. Snagged a bunch of choice vinyl. Too many to list, but near top was a Lot of Johnny Winter material that included some reasonably rare jazz work he did many moons ago.

This is a really nice CD. I have not yet heard Sister Sweetly but this one and Midnight Radio have made me a Big Head Todd fan.

This one will definitely get more play time and Sister Sweetly is on the short list.

There are a couple of used book, CD and DVD chains in this area. Most will sell used CD's for around $8. One in particular will sell "scratched" CDs for $1 to $3. I have yet to buy one that has not played flawlessly on my gear. I visit them a couple of times a week and one of them has stores throughout the region. When I was traveling with my daughter last weekend, after her team curfew instead of sitting in the motel I found a used CD store where I picked up the 2 BHT discs.

Off the top of my head a few that I have picked up for less than $2 are:

Gin Blossoms - "New Miserable Experience" and "Congratulations...I'm Sorry"
Leann Rimes - "Blue"
Linda Ronstadt w/Aaron Neville - "Cry Like A Rainstorm - Howl Like The Wind"
Goo Goo Dolls - "A Boy Named Goo" and "Dizzy Up The Girl"
Matchbox 20 - "Yourself Or Someone Like You"
David Crosby - "Thousand Roads"
Genesis - "We Can't Dance"
Spin Doctors - "Pocket Full of Kryptonite"
Sara Evans - "Born To Fly"
Eric Clapton - "Journeyman"

Plus many more. I've been buying from them for a couple of years. Mainly picked up stuff from the late 80s and 90's when there was a lull in my buying due to family and career demands. A lot are CDs where I was familiar with a track but was not willing to pay full price for an unknown commodity. Well...for $2... Back in my college days I used to play a lot of poker....There was one Vietnam Vet that always used a particular phrase when it came time to match the pot..."I'd pay $xx to watch monkeys f**k " as he threw in the chips or cash. I've bought a lot of stuff that I would not normally buy...but hey...for $2 I'd.......

Another softball tounament for my daughter's High school softball team. The Lady Devils finished 2nd out of 20 teams. Had to play 4 straight games back to back to get to the championship game and by then had run out of gas. Beat the defending state champs twice in the weekend to get to the championship game. 2 games Friday night 6 games on Saturday. Got to the park at 9:00 AM and left at 11:30 PM. (I don't know how these kids do it). I had to drive all night to get home so she could leave at 12 noon the next day to go to Florida for spring break trip with her church youth group.

Motel Room - $70
gas - $50
food - $40
2 day tourament pass - $10
8 quarts of gatorade - $20
8 packs of sunflower seeds - $6
5 cups of coffee - $5 (for the trip home that started at 11:30 PM and ended at 4:30 AM after 14 1/2 hours at the ballpark)

Worth every penny and every minute I spend. They grow up way to fast. She's off to college in 6 months and it seems like she was just born yesterday.
