Monster Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.

Anyone own these or demo them? I checked them out today at best buy. They had a pretty sweet demo setup that let you listen to rap, rock, and r&b. I think they sounded pretty damn good. This was surprising because I figured you'd be paying for brand name and to have Dre's name on them.

They had the best bass response of any headphone I've ever listened to. The phones shook on head on some of the bass notes. Really impressed me!

I'm looking at a pair of Sennheiser HD650s, but these caught my attention. Probably still go with the HD650s seeing as headphones are Sennheisers specialty, whereas Monster is all over the place with their R&D money.

besides the hard hitting bass, i found Dr. Dre just ok on everything else.
HD650 is in a completely different class, i found they r one of the very best for instruments and classics. but vocal on HD650 is just ok to me. they are very hard to drive, 200ohms, make sure u have a good amp for them.

Can you make them portable by any means?

i think dr.dre is very easy to drive. hd650 is very unlikely, u can use a mini headphone amp powered by battery though, but not to be the best option. hd650 will sound like crap on a portable player without amp.

Where as the Beats will sound like crap with everything.
Go to the head fi site and do your homework. There's a lot of better
portable headphones/earbuds out there for less money.

ive listened to a lot of headphones and own a few good ones (etc. grado rs-2)

my reply only refers to Cpyders comparison between dr. dre and HD650, and he likes the bass coming out from dr. dre and ive to agree it does have hard hitting bass, if it is something he likes, i cannot think of any other so called hi fi hi end headphones have such hard hitting bass from senheisiner, sony, denon, audio tech, AKG, beyer dynamics to grado. particularly for portable use, theres not much u can get from low amp output, poor dac and mp3 recordings.

i personaly perfer much cheaper grado sr60 to dr.dre for portable player, i think its more balanced, detailed, ethusastic and airy than dr.dre. but it does not have the hard hitting bass and dr.dre does and theres nothing wrong to like hard hitting bass. if this is what u like then go for it, just comparing these 2, dr.dre is better than hd650 for portable player use.

I haven't heard the HD650s yet, but a lot of reviews also comment on their bass. Bass isn't THAT important to me but when dealing with headphones, it should be pretty easy to get some amazing mids and highs with some low pounding bass for an affordable amount of money.

But it does seem like the 650s are not very portable. The only reason the Beats are, is because they use a pair of batteries.

the two brands i like the most at this price range is Grade SR series and Denon 1k and 2k series. check them out, also the audio technica.

My reply was for the OP. Try this site for a quick look at options.
http://www.headphone.com/ or http://www.head-fi.org/

I know it's hard to audition headphones up in Iowa. It can be pretty
hard even here in Dallas. At least we have the option to catch a head fi
meet and get to hear a lot of cans side by side. There's a lot of good options
there. HD650 and portable don't go in the same sentence together.
A good pair of Ety's would get the job done. As well as several others.
AKG and Grado make some pretty decent portable headhones.
