Not sure if this has always been a issue-just started noticing it.
I have a Sony BDP-S350 BluRay Player connected to an Onkyo 805 via HDMI.
When I play a BD with either of the HD audio formats, (DTS HD Master Audio, or Dolby TrueHD) I hear a lot of static. Sometimes its just barley there and periodic but you can still hear the main title's audio, but other times its so bad you can't hear any other audio but seems to be getting better. The best way to describe the Avg static sound is like it were playing a dirty or scratched vinyl album.

I tried several different movies, and dbl checked all the settings on both my Onk and the Sony. Onk shows the corrrect decoding on the display.

I have the latest Firmware on the Sony, I still have to check the Onk.

None of the other audio formats have any problems.

Any ideas??

Right ow I'm going to hook up my HD-DVD to rule out or confirm an issue with the Sony.

Thanks

I had the same setup Onkyo 805 and Sony BDP-350. It was dead quiet without any static issues. Also try changing HDMI cables and make sure they're push in all the way.

Your setup is jacked, check your cables

OK, I know its been some time but...
Its not the cables-I swapped them all.

I started to watch Ghostbusters on BD the other day and that damn static was still there but now worse.

You know what made me even more p'ed off? The only Audio option was True-HD!! No option for 2 channel, no option for reg Dolby or DTS 5.1. WTH?? Actually there was a non True-HD option, but it was in Portuguese!!! WTF! So I basically could not watch the movie. I couldn't even override the decoding on the Onk 805 like I can with any other format-it was like locked into it.

Anyway, I brought the BR player upstairs and hooked it up to my other Onk 805 and it worked fine. I even used the same HDMI cable. So there must be an issue with my Onk 805 downstairs--Crap--I was really hoping that if there was a problem that it wouldn't be with the Heavy beast.

Well I still have to try flashing the firmware on the Onk, but I'm not overly confident. I did notice that the staticy sound did change when I wiggled the HDMI out that goes to the PJ. However even with that cable completely disconnected, its still there.
