Well my X did for me. She was out yard sailing with her mom today. She bought some stuff from a guy, and he owed her a $1 change. He didn't have a dollar so he told her to grab something of similar value. I get a ride to the store from her(my car is dead), and when loading the groceries in the trunk I notice the little amp. I looked at it, and asked what it was. She didn't even really know so she asked me if I wanted it. I offered her a $1, and she was like no. So I offered her two bucks, and it was mine:) So there is this little cube amp that says Jamo MPA 101 on it for $5. It is a pretty neat looking amp. It is only 50 @4ohms x 2, or 100 at 8ohms bridged. It is setup to be run full range, or you can use the built in sub XO. I saw a toroid tranny in there(+30,0,-30vdc(can you say chip amp)), and I liked the case so even if the amp was blown(it may be) I would have a nice looking little case to use for my upcoming tube pre project. He gives it to her for the $1 owed in change. I may try it out as is, and then most likely rip out the XO junk, and auto turn on... This may end up being a nice little integrated hybrid tube amp, or a real neat looking tube pre. I hope it comes out half a pretty as Richie's work or Nick's.

Nice score Ben!
There are(were) a couple more companies that do those amps.

I bought one of the Dayton models for a friend of mine for their outdoor pool setup. Nice sounding little amps!

Thanks for the Dayton link. I was just going to dive in and tear it apart, but after reading the reviews I may just try it stock:)

That's just typical.

From what I've gathered so far, Emotiva is the OEM on those amps - well at least the Dayton one. The Dayton and Emotiva amps are rated at 2x75@4.

The driver/output boards are setup for an extra pair of output devices(each channel). The stock PS caps consist of a pair of 6800uf's(50vdc), and the toroid is probaly around 250va. I am asuming that the EMO, and the Dayton use a slightly larger toroid, and PS caps. I have about 10 15,000uf(63vdc) caps here that are brand new. The boards are allready stuffed minus the extra output trannies. If I ditch the active XO's, relays, add the larger PS caps, and maybe get a slightly larger toroid I can kick it up a notch.
I could ditch all the extra electronics, use the case for the heatsinks, drop in some gainclones that I have built just sitting here waiting for a home. The heatsinks are over sized for the wattage the 50x2 my amp puts out. It also has a 12vdc fan for active cooling(variable thermal resistor). From all the reviews I read people have said the fan never even turns on. A simply line stage tube buffer with a b+ of 30-36vdc would be easy to do. Some tubes, and a transformer for the heaters would look nice on that case. It is a very sweet looking case. The enclosures I have been looking at are anywhere from $100-$170 shipped. A huge plus is that all the connectors I need are allready mounted. The best $2 I have spent:)

I almost bought one of those off e-bay simply to use the case for my gainclone project. Have no idea how the Jamo unit sounds............but for $2, you can't beat that deal with a stick!

Well before I tear it apart I am going to see if it works fine. If it does I may just use it. The PS is perfect for GC's. Also the amp stage is real clean on that uinit. If I get rid of all the XO stuff, and protection circuit it may sound good. I'll keep you posted. Actually if it sounds good I may stick a tube through the roof and have a neat little hybrid integrated amp:) If you get a chance to get one cheap the case is real nice on that unit.

It works fine, and then it doesn't work. The SQ is kinda flat. I am not even going to toy with it. I am gutting it, and paralleling some gainclones in the case. Later I will add a tube buffer I built around Fred's design for the "amp deal of the century". I will have to make an adjustment for the 30v b+ and add a little 6.3v transformer for the heaters.
