I scored a Polk RM6600 HT, some speaker stands and a PSW350 sub last night from an ad on craigslist. It cost me a half hour each way in the car and $150. The guy had it in the original packaging with the manuals.
It seemed like the guy wasn't terribly interested in parting with it, but had to... We didn't talk about it. I couldn't believe the condition of the gear, and it sounds great in my home.

But I hate the "my loss is your gain" feeling. I don't like taking advantage of someone else's problems.

Craigslist-dude, if you are on here- thanks for the gear; I hope things start going your way more and more.

Well, think of it the other way... he needed to sell it, needed the money, and you provided that money to him.

Love Craigslist. Definately some good deals to be had especially since the economy is like crap and people are losing their jobs.

Ive had to do that myself in the past, it does make me feel better if I know its going to someone who will take care of their equipment.

Your $150 may have brought his checking account up to $151.39!

I mean, hell... i'm about to buy back my old VS-25s for $30 less than i sold them for!

And picking up a set of 11TLs for $75.

Economy is killing people, i'm just fortunate to not have taken a real big hit. These people are setting the price because that's what they need. I just provide to them what they need, and i get a steal in the process. It's kindof a win/win.

Of course he could have also needed the cash to fund his next hit of meth.
For the price he sold them for, it is entirely possible he was on something...

I've gotten numerous deals on CL.. I love it. My RT8s were $60, and the RT55s were $50!

I think i'm dropping them off to Nik this weekend. If he doesn't end up wanting them, they will probably go up for sale. Not for $25, though. :p It'll be a fair price, not looking to make a profit off of them.

I can't let Nik go without tunes. He tried to admit to me the other day that he was happy listening to music on his TV speakers, and that he was contemplating a Bose cube system. I wanted to kick him in the testes.

If i keep the M7s, i'll be doing a full on "resto-mod" with them. Good starting point to get bitten with the mod bug.

Yeah; when I saw the ad, I have to be honest, I told three people the address I was going to and what time so they'd know my last whereabouts; the name of the seller, in case it was a fake name, it still might give police a lead. I left all my credit/debit cards at home, took anything of any value out of my car, and dialed my wife's number on my cell in my pocket before I rang the doorbell.

Paranoid much? Yes. But who offers what once was $1200+ gear for $150 in perfect condition?

I was immediately set at ease when I met the guy, and felt the only thing wrong with the transaction was that he knew what he had and didn't really want to get rid of it.

I hope you guys are right; I hope I did help the guy out. I also hope that he doesn't need anymore help.

It's a good place to look for and to sell stuff. I have bought and sold several items on CL and I think it is a good forum to do so.

As others have said, yes, you got a great deal...but he also got some money that he obviously needed.

Who knows, you might have helped him pay his rent this month...or helped him make his car payment.

I've felt bad about getting killer deals on things before...but if that's the price they're asking for, I don't really see a need to feel bad about it.

I have found tons of good stuff on Craigslist such as a car I used for work to my black pug that I have today. However, you have to be cautious of people and what they are selling. Commonsense will usually kick in on whats legit and whats not.

Without CL I wouldn't have my stereo, or my road bike. It's been good to me.
