I have something like the first one buried in a closet in case of an emergency.

Being in earthquake country, I've seen these Eton radios before. Our local public radio station even offer them as gifts during pledge drives. I have several battery-powered portable radio by Sony throughout the house that are at the ready just in case "The Big One" hits.

I have one of these:

It picks up the "Radio China" channel (National Chineese radio station run by the gov't)...pretty interesting listening, as well as other stations from around the globe. Gives you a different perspective on things...

I have one similar to the first one. It works, that's about all I can say about it. I just hope to never need it, things would be seriously wrong to need to use it.

Also had something similar to the 2nd one I bought at the BX while stationed in Spain in 1978. Some JVC model that was AM -FM - SW - and cassette player/recorder. It actually was a pretty good unit, wasn't too big or heavy, until you stuffed it full of (8) D cells :D
