DSOTM SACD shipped today

Just got email from circuitcity.com that my DSOTM SACD shipped today. I preordered it a month ago for $13.99. Also checkout Best Buy, they had it on preorder for $11.99

I seriously want a new player that plays all formats (DVD A, SACD, etc...). This release may be the one to push me over the edge to get one.

Got DSOTM yesterday via USPS.
I'm listening to the stereo SACD layer on a SONY DVP-NS500V which is hooked up to my 2 channel system.
Modified Magnepan MG12, Anthem PRE 2L SE tube preamp, Parasound HCA 1500A amp. DH Labs Air Matrix IC from sources to preamp. Harmonic Technology ProSilway MkII IC from preamp to amp.
Initial reactions:
The first thing I noticed is the blackness (or quietness) of the background. There are lots of sounds and voices wandering around the soundstage there is no blurring or fuzziness they are very clear. On "Time", the clocks are VERY distinctive. You can almost see the individual clocks in space! The shimmer of the grandfather clock was perfect not too bright or etched sounding.
On "Money" WOW!!!. The cash registers are so clear, everything on this track is so dynamic and so clear!
I'll report back after I've absorbed more time with DSOTM and will compare to my LP version. Looks like I'll be ordering the remastered LP version also.

I wonder how it would fare against my original 180 gram Harvest pressing?

Which version do you have on LP Tony, Harvest, or the Columbia label? I have both, and the difference is night-and-day.

Ok, believe it or not, this is my first Pink Floyd cd. I don't have an sacd player yet, so I haven't heard that mix yet. I think the stereo version is awesome though. I was worried about what the sound quality would be like, coming from an old recording, but it really sounds great!

I have the Harvest version on LP. Steve Hoffman says the new LP version is awesome especially if you have ribbon tweeters he said.

I picked this up today. I am still waiting on my XA777ES to arrive, so I can only compare the CD layer to my MoFi copy. It starts off with alot of hiss and the gain is much higher than the MoFi copy, but there is more detail and air. The MoFi copy seems warmer to me and I think that's a good thing. I will reserve final judgement until I can listen to the SACD layer.

I pick up a copy yesterday and gave it a listen last night and tonight. I normally prefer the 2 channel SACD but this Multi-channel version was stunning.

Every thing tonyv1 mentioned is dead on. The nice thing about this mix is that you are enveloped in sounds that are not necessarily music so it does not seem contrived as many multi-channel discs do. The overall quality of the disc is excellent and true to the original. Including the faint Beatles instumental during the heartbeats at the end of "Eclipse". For those of you that aren't aware...at the end of the last track when all you hear is heartbeats you can also hear what was originally on the master tapes before they were erased and recorded over. As soon as you hear the heart beats...crank up the volume to about half on your system and can hear an instumental version of "Ticket To Ride". DSOTM was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and used a tape that had previously been recorded on. I don't think it is the Beatles, just their song. You could always hear it if you knew where to listen...but now it is very clear and easy to hear.

I have not listened to the Redbook or SACD 2-channel mixes yet since I was enjoying the multi-channel so much.

Shack, I picked up a copy yesterday, listen to it almost all day yesterday...one word, WOW! simply stunning on multichannels. Now I can't wait for The Wall, imagine those helicopters flyby sound.....Is There Anybody Out There?

is this SACD a hybrid (sp) disc? will it play in a regular dvd player like DVD-a will?

it's a hybrid and yes you can play it on your cd player.

I didn't know about the 'Ticket to Ride'.

I don't hear it on the MC, but it's very easy to hear on 2C.

This is an amazing sacd.

I buy DVDA's because of the DD 5.1 remixes.
I want to buy the DSOTM SACD but for now what is the quality of the "CD" portion of this SACD like --- is it a large improvement over the regular CD version?????? Fill me in !!!!!

Scott, see my post above. I'm still waiting for the XA777ES to get here, so I have been listening to the cd portion. Dispite the hiss that I hear at times (when compared to my MoFi copy) it does sound better. Since the MoFi was miles better than the regular version, I'm sure you'll find the SACD disc, awesome.

After very little responce I picked this SACD up today at K-Mart for $10.99 and also Police SACD. I own both on "regular" cd and I will compare qualitys.
