i currently own a pair of dx10s. what ever happend? im my opinion the DX seris was the best series polk made. ive had them for 3 years now, and i still smoke everyone at school. one kid had a 15 JL and everyone said mine was louder and deeper and sounded better. so why was the dx line droped. they were built good and strong and for the price was awsome. why was it droped? cuz idk ive heard the new ones and they flex and the excursion is shorter and all. the momos are good definitly. but way out of my price range. lol. so what happened? can i still buy or find dxs cuz i would like a pair of 12s. lol

The DX series was NOT the best sub that Polk ever made. That position is held, and strongly, by the dB series. By far the best Polk speaker made for cars yet. Both the DX and the dB have been discontinued. Thier legacy lives on in the MOMO series although it is a partially empty shell of the former glory of the dB and DX series subs. Why they were discontinued is up to Polk Audio. The dB was probably very expensive and the DX was a bit cheaper and seems to use different materials than the dB. So I imagine that cost was a major factor and since both the DX and dB were plain black and not flashy at all, they did not attract the younger buyers who wanted lots of flash to impress thier friends at school.

haha i didnt need flash when they heard me clean and clear fomr 4 blocks away. lol. that is tru, i never did hear the db series in person. but it think a dust cap you can stand on and even a speaker you can stand on shows how good it was. vs lets say sony explodes. what was teh difference between the db and the dx?

Fromw what I can tell, the dB has a heavier surround, the cone material is a bit thicker and has a different texture so it might be a different material and the DX does not have the dB casket basket. At least not in the capacity the dB has.

I have a DX in my girl's car and it sounds very nice but i had my dB in the same box with the same amount of power and hands down, it out-performed the DX.

in addition to what jstas said, the db had a heavier cone, now that usually means "oh heavier cone will slam harder so more bass right?" -- well that also requires more power to move it... so the dx were just a slight more sensitive (whether their rating showed it or not) due to the lighter cone.

they were still really really good and i absolutely loved my 10's but they were'nt db's... the db was more compareable to the momo, but even the momo falls short (even tho the momo can probably take a little more power -- i'm nto sure what the db 12 topped at.... but the momo's doing 650 with no issues.

anyway... u said u wanted to get dx 12's ? dont... i liked my 10's so much that i went and got 4 dx 12's for my 99 x cab pickup.

well i found that my 10's took over their rms.. they were rated 300 and took 350.. but the 12's took under their rms, rated 400 only did 350 - 375 before they broke up badly.

i listened for a few days with just one of them going and as i can recall i noticed that the 12 was not nearly as "tight" as the 10... it was very close, but i liked the 10 better.

also, the 250D is doing like 300 x 1 at 12.5 v and maybe 400 x 1 at 14.4 --- at 200 w each i dont think you'll notice any difference between the 10 and the 12's they'l sound the same (prolly better w/ the 10).
