F/X 500i Mounting Bracket ??

I have read many posts about how to hang the F/X 500i on the walls as far as hitting studs, etc., but my question is a little different:

I have already installed Very Strong Bolts in the wall that will hold 200+ pounds so they will hold the speakers without any problem, BUT has anybody ever had a problem with the actual mounting bracket that is attached to the back of the F/X 500i ??

When I hung the speakers on the wall last night, I questioned how good that bracket is attached to the back of the speaker....It seems like there is alot of weight on the bracket and I am more worried about the bracket pulling off the back of the speaker rather then the bolts comming out of the wall. (I have put some padding at the bottom of the speaker where it hits the wall to take some pressure off of the bracket joints.)

I have not even had a chance to test them yet....so I am also worried about the negative inpact of vibration on the connecting points.

I would think POLK intended the brackets to hold the speakers on the wall, but just wondered if anybody had any bad experiences with this??

Do the 500's have two mounting brackets like the 1000?

No, Each speaker only has ONE bracket that is mounted on the top half of the speaker's back. Each of the Brackets then has "2" holes to hang on the screw or bold heads.

When the speaker is hung on the screw or bold heads, the bottom of the speaker with all of the weight is about a half-inch away from the wall. If the speaker was bumped or pushed at the bottom, the bracket would absorb the stress.

I've got my 1000's hung on the speaker brackets and they work fine. I was going to mount these from the ceiling and drilled them for an omnimount bracket but ended up just using the existing brackets. The omnimount held the 1000's fine with just one attachment. I figure the speaker will rip out of the wall before the mounting bracket comes off.

I'm thinkin about mounting mine to the wall, but the only problem is that space-wise, I would only be able tog et 3 out of 4 of the screws in place for the bracket. I don't really want to drill out 1/2" holes for the butterfly brackets, so do you think that 3 of the metal screw anchors would work that are rated for 30 pounds each? My concern is that I'll have abougt 4-5 inches of the speaker not touching any sort of wall, and I don't wanna come home one day to them lying on the ground.......Whatcha think?

Brett - I have had the same concern about the mounting brackets, albeit on another model of speaker. The RTi38's, and others, have two small bumpers at the lower half of the speaker. Opposite the bracket. Still made me cautious enough that I used some B Tech brackets to mount them on the wall.

Since you are mounting them on the wall, to a stud, what about a small piece of wood for that space? Scraps at Home Depot abound. I was thinking perhaps, 4" x 4" block perhaps, with a countersunk hole mounted in the same stud, at your "space"....Paint it the color of the wall. I know it will not be the prettiest idea, but it should put you more at ease, and it will be behind the speaker.

I would call it custom installed at that point... :)

Oh ya........and I'm in an apartment.....can't be doin perm adjustments to the place........

Brett - You can pick up a stud finder at Home Depot for about $15. I personally wouldnt mount a speaker on sheetrock alone. As for the block it wouldnt be but another hole to spackle when you leave. Good luck in whatever you do choose tho'.
