Just a quick question on the power figures for these subs. They are stated at 125watts RMS, That seems very low compared to other subs in the same sort of range. Is that 125 a realistic figure.

If you were to run 2 GNX12s off of a JL 500/1 amp rated at 500watts RMS would this be too much power for it?

the gnx's are 175 not 125 -- 200 each is a realistic figure...

the 500.1 is a bit much for them.

if i were to use gnx's i'd be looking for a class AB that did 400 x 1 bridged into 4 ohms and get the dual 4 ohm / single 8 ohm gnx 12's.

Sorry i meant 175 RMS. So the JL is to much for 2 of them. Thats not even that powerfull an amp would have though more of Polk's subs considering the next step up is the Momo range.

and now you see why for a few years i have complained that polk needs a 250 - 300 watt 10 / 12 inch sub like the db/dx were... why? because some people dont want / need a 225 dollar 500 watt sub... and most people dont want a 175 watter either... least not in my world.

250-300 pleases the BULK of people.

Agreed!!! Most of my customers want more then the GNX but less than the Momo.

You can NEVER have too much power. The more clean power, the better.

agreed...just turn the gain down...unless you dont have the amp...then you might want to get a smaller amp...but then again...if u ever wanna upgrade...itll give you more options

agreed -- but its not he gain that's the issue -- well actually it is -- problem is, last time i saw a JL500.1 was a gen1 500.1 / 1000.1 and they didn't have "dialable" gains. they simply had a two position gain ... "low" or "high"... that was it. no dialable adjustment inbetween. the arguement from the rep was "the amp adjusts itself to put out 500 or 1000 watts period... so why would u want a true gain adjustment... instead, this gain simply accomidates very "off center" gains as well as your normal shit." -- if the newer 500.1 has a dialable gain, then by all means, u can just turn it back a bit and you'll be fine.
