i know its probably been beaten to death over the years but ive spent a few horus searching the forums and only found 2 or 3 posts about it... and anyways i thought id start a new one with my setup and see what you all think... i have an older pioneer 5.1 500 wat per channel reciever i was using a crap center channel for a long time, i finally picked up a cs2. googamooga how did i live without it? i love it a whole new world. well now i want to upgrade my main fronts and im looking into the monitor 70 and monitor 60, i have a Klipsch Synergy Sub-12... its a big one so i have the bass covered just wondering if id would be beneficial for me to get the 70's or would the 60s be ok since i have a decent sub? the 70's are 340$a pair to my door... and 60's are 225$ a pair to my door.... either way is a great deal... i just dont know which is better.

I also have a sub12 and was using monitor 50's for quite some time as the fronts. Just upgraded to the 70's and they bring so much more to the listening experience. If $115 isn't going to break the bank I say go big or go home.

I have both and I say go for the 70's. Everyone will tell you though, that either the 60's or 70's will benefit from more power. If you don't mind spending the extra money, the 70's are definitely nicer. Just my opinion, but enjoy whatever you buy. Welcome to Club Polk!

70's have been amazing. Huge jump over my 50's but also bought a new receiver at the same time. Though this is a debate between the 60's and 70's not my 50's.... I still say if you are going to spend a decent amount of money to just go for it... make sure to use bing.com for 2% cashback as well.

I had the 40's and upgraded to the 70's with the CS2...very nice. I've never heard the 60's but with the price I'd go 70's for sure.

I have 60s and 70s and I can agree the 70s bring alot more to the table. Even with a good sub, the 70s just sound like a bigger speaker. Not knocking the 60s though, I really enjoyed them as mains for a while

Welcome to Club Polk.
I like the Monitor 70's for stereo music listening as well has HT.
It is easy to notice the better midrange and bass in the 70's.
The price difference between the 70's and the 60's has narrowed so that the Monitor 70's are hard to pass. Both speakers do better with more power, but I found that the 70's really benefit from a bigger amp.

I would recommend the Monitor 60's if you are on a tight budget and listen to HT 90% and music 10%.
Being smaller they also have more WAF, so there are other factors to consider.

Reaper, I love the sub12. I picked it up from a circuit city closing for 300 bucks to replace my psw10. I hated the psw10 out of the box and knew off the bat I made a terrible purchase. Love everything else polk I have but damn did that sub sound like crap... for what little sound it actually made. Once I get a house rather than an apartment where I have asshole neighbors pounding down my door for any sort of noise I plan to pick up a 2nd sub12 to rattle my teeth out.

lol hey... i upgraded form a P.o.S. KLH 10inch so yea anything is better than that distorted mess i was getting before... so yea i LOVE my klipsh sub.... and for my listening habits... im 95% home theater (movies, games, TV) 5% actual stereo music... so hope that helps =) by the way... i got my a-hole apartment neighbor to stop complaining about the loudness when i let him leech off my wifi =)

I have both -- To compare the two, the 60s are a bit shallow in the midrange, especially for 2 channel listening. Also, when you start to get into a bit more volume, the 70s win hands down.

However, room size is important. in my 13x13 bedroom, the 60s fill the room (with a small sub). In my 25x15 living room, the 60s would not generate room-filling sound.

I like the Monitor 70's with a CS2 up front with the Monitor 60's or Monitor 50's as side surrounds.
I did run 3 Monitor 60's as LCR on my master bedroom system for a while until I got the Monitor 70's for LR. I ran each Monitor 60 on top of a PSW10 subwoofer which worked ok.
I prefer floorstanders to bookshelf or wall mounted speakers since stands or holes in the walls are undesireable.
