I must be a super cool polkie. I got a call from the folks we rent our DVD's from and they offer to let me preview the Revenge of the Fallen movie before this Tuesday. :o
I don't understand why alot of people didn't like this one. It had a good storyline and the sfx & fight sequences were really well done. The DD 5.1 was some of the best use of surround I've heard on my rig. Janey was even getting a kick out of it, and she's not into these kind of sci-fi action flicks.
I enjoyed this one just as much as the first. Not an important movie, but a fun ride nonetheless. This is a definite "buy" for my collection.
Edit: And Megan Fox is HOT! :D

My Wife saw it for free in the theaters, two of her sisters work for AMC, one is a Manager the other is lower in the ranks. Her mom has a card that gets her into any movie plus 2 people, so my wife is seeing tons of Movies all the time.
She didn't like it, But she really doesn't like SciFi as much as I do. I guess I'll have to rent it and see.

Don't know how long I'll continue to have access..but we may be planning a trip to Japan during the Chinese New Year!

Mike, I certainly hope this is not your version of a "movie review". If so, you need to add another several thousand words that attempts to show us how much you know about movies and such.
Simply telling us you like it, had great special effects, it sounded really good on your rig and Megan Fox is HOT (which she definitely is...a local girl...that makes me so proud) is not enough. ;)
BTW - I will be getting this one tomorrow.

There weren't many early reviews because they were, for some reason, stingy on BD copies for reviewers. Blu-ray.com has a good review of it that's pretty much on the money. I gave a friend's copy a spin Saturday (because my setup has better video than his), but I still snagged it after work today. Good dumb fun and jaw-dropping audio and video.

i haven't watched the extras yet. but i just got done watching the bluray. as expected, pic quality was up there. audio even better. the very opening scene clued me into the fact there would be some awesome sound to ensue. and it did. bass i found a little lacking for so many explosions and what not. just as i felt in the first movie.
through the entire movie i kept hoping for a crazy bass scene like in part one when ironhide does that flip over that chick screaming. i didn't find anything of that magnitude. oh well.
i liked the movie a whole bunch, even past many over-acting scenes.

So are you guys picking up the standard BD or the BIG Screen Edition from Wal-Mart. Seems Wally World has a big screen edition that has the IMAX shots and from what I read at AVS the PQ/AQ is very good. I was going to pick up the standard BD but am choosing to go for the Big Screen Edition as I speculate the image will look spectacular on my 126" screen. Here's the link and yes it's Wally World Exclusive.

Nice setup in the Sig Line MM. Are you doing the masking or are you allowing your Panny to use the mem lens function? If your using mask, I'm just curious as to what setup you have as I am very interested in masking but it can be very expensive. I was looking into Carada but man that 3k is kind of high.

I use the panny lens memory and move the image all the way to the botton of the screen and only mask off the top half of the screen with some heavy almost denim like black fabric. Only draw back is I cant use the entire screen to watch TV or 1.78 or 1.85 movies but the panny has a function that scales down the image to fit perfectly in the masked area and the image still measures all most 80'' so I can deal with it. :D Here's a pic

What is the point of the masking? Is it because you can see the white part of the screen while watching movies?

Yeah, my room has a ton of reflection and reflects light back on to the screen making the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen (in my case just the top) very noticeable and it really helps with the perceived contrast.

I love how so many people went into this movie expecting an awesome plot or some really good story line, and then come out dissapointed when it doesn't deliver on those items.
First, it's a Michael Bay movie, that right there should clue you into the fact that it's not going to have a godo story, plot, or acting.
Second, it's TRANSFORMERS! What the hell did you expect, really???

Tons of LFE in the BD version. Made my whole setup worthwhile. Bring on 3. For a popcorn flick I was very pleased.

Finally saw this after reluctantly missing it on the big screen. I saw the first one with my GF and she refused to let me shell out money for another one. As it turns out a buddy from work lent me his new DVD so I could check it out. WOW! As hard as I tried to like this thing, it was terrible. It just seemed like Bay was intentionally trying to kick the viewer in the head as often as possible... No real characters, awful plot and disjointed, meaningless action. I thought the first movie wasn't bad and expected a standard Bay-fest, but I have to say he has hit an all-time low, and that's saying something for the director of such screen gems as The Rock and Bad Boyz 2. At least those two movies had plots you could follow, as brutal as they were. The popcorn defense just doesn't cut it here, this thing was bad. Stinking, steaming pile of (insert whatever animal waste you choose here) bad. I would never dream of seeing it again and would caution anyone who has yet to see it from waisting their time. Thats 2 and half hours of my life I won't get back again.

Again... I find it funny that some of the same people who constantly deliver flying dropkicks to rap and pop music (lamenting the sad state of affairs of today's shallow, talentless music scene) will defend garbage like this.
If fact... they'll generally use the EXACT same argument when defending one medium that they use when criticizing another - i.e. I hate rap because it is mindless, throwaway entertainment vs. I love Michael Bay movies because they are mindless, throwaway entertainment.
You say Rap is nothing more than a lot of "booms" and inane lyrics. I say Michael Bay movies are nothing more than a lot of "booms" and inane dialogue.
It can't work both ways.

First disk I picked up 'retail' in a long time. Amazon is usually too cheap to bother driving to the store. But since the price was the same AND Wal-Mart had IMAX content, it seemed like a no brainer to spend a little extra on tax and gas and pick it up on the release day.
Very happy I did. Just like the Dark Knight, the IMAX scenes were stellar when they opened up to full screen with a lot of detail and pop. The increase in quality looked great on my 60", you could probably tell even better on your 126". But just like the Dark Knight, the scenes were far too few and brief. Too bad we still seem to be in the 'experimental' stage with IMAX.

Ditto for me! Lots of bass and fast bot movement on the screen and at times it was hard to keep up with. As a sequal it "sucks" and it belongs on MTV. However, as a bass hound I will more than likely watch it again since I invest a few $$ into the Bluray version from Amazon.

The Imax scenes are where the aspect ratio shifts from wide-screen to full screen then back to wide screen. A very stupid and annoying "feature" IMO.
Just finished the 2nd Transformers movie. Okay, nothing special. I did slow the movie to frame by frame while Ms Fox was crawling in the desert.

When the DK starts out, notice Joker on the street corner, also when the Goons shoot the line through the window to make way to the top of the bank to cut phone lines: These should all be IMAX scenes and fill your screen completely. Afterward the movie should change ratio to 2:35/40 and you will have black bars top/bottom.

Watched it last night. It more or less met my expectations and was enjoyable. Good PQ, the soundtrack gave the rig a workout, lots of action, lots of cool f/x and cgi, and some eye candy. Not a bad couple of hours at all IMO.
And yes...rap still sucks.

All I can ask for in this type of movie is great sound, picture quality and plenty of action. Anyone wanting a story plot can turn to the lifetime network.:p
 :D:D:D Too funny.

Did you watch the DVD or the Bluray of TDK? I'm pretty sure the Imax scenes weren't on the DVD just the BD

i'd chaulk them up as fairly uneventful. for me, it didn't have the same feel as the imax scenes in TDK, and could have been done in the same aspect ratio as the rest of the movie.
last week walmart had the better price though.

There's one key difference though that you're missing...
I know I don't like rap music, therefore I don't listen to it. Therefore, I don't complain about how much is sucks because I don't listen to it. My reasoning for not liking it, by the way, has nothing to do with it being mindless.
The problem I'm having with people on the Transformers movie is that they KNOW what they're getting into. It's TRANSFORMERS, directed by MICHAEL BAY!!!! You know what you're getting into, CHOOSE to go see it, and then bitch when it delivers basically exactly what you expected.
I supposed someone could raise the argument 'I didn't know to expect that, I thought it would have a great plot and great acting'. My knee-jerk reaction to that is "Well, you're just dumb".
That's like me walking into a sushi bar and then complaining because they serve raw fish...

I get ya... but I still don't understand how a given person can retain any ammunition whatsoever against a certain medium, while embracing another for the same reasons they despise the other.
Seriously... blast rap for blatant misogyny, terrible dialogue, over-production and lack of subtlety. Just be prepared to face the same accusations when defending a Michael Bay movie.
More power to you if you want to give SVS a workout for two hours. Great stuff. Just don't turn your nose up at the kid that gets off doing the same thing on his Cerwin Vegas connected to his IPod.
