View Full Version : I officially own my first polk system
I'm a happy owner of my first home theatre, an LSI system, and even though i've only had it for a couple of days, i'm diggin it.
I run the LSI15s and LSIC for the LCR and a set of LSI7s for the rears. Currently, they are all running off of my harman kardon AVR254 receiver :eek:and i know that they love the juice (and the HK doesn't like the 4 ohm), so i have an acurus 200x3 on the way to power the front 3; the lsi7s should be fine off of the AVR for now.
I have to say, the speakers are pretty wild, and i'm excited to see if there is a difference when i get my amp hooked up. The biggest surprise to me was i listened to Tool's album Aenema, and i was amazed at what i could actually hear; the drums especially sound amazing, i can hear everything.
I don't have a sub yet, but i am planning on getting the SVS pb13 ultra in a couple of months, but i have to say that the bass from the lsi15s is pretty impressive considering they only have 50 watts to them. I watched The Fellowship of the Ring last night, and the scene when Sauron dies and the shock wave is sent out was awesome.... i didn't think a tower could sound like that. Just a huge wave of bass. Can't wait to hear what the SVS can do in that scene though
I'm a happy guy today:D

acurus would be a great improvement. i think it is as good as it could be to power LSi15s on a budget.
i, for once, wasn't impressed with the bass of the Lsi15s but the Ultra-13 would more than takes care of it.
did you just get a big bonus or something? :D

congrats.. you've got the building blocks for a kick arse system. enjoy!
thanks guys, LOL @ the building my way up slowly ;)
I always start by getting something cheap that'll do the job OK, but then before i know, i have the urge to get something that'll be awesome.
I did the same thing with TVs, starting with an older panny plasma, selling it and going to the lna650, and then eventually selling THAT one and ending up with the 55" xbr8 in the end. So i figured with speakers, i'd save up for a bit and get the best i can afford. Plus i got the LSI15s and LSIC on sale, and i picked up the lsi7s for $300 (used but in perfect condition). So i didn't spend a FORTUNE, but i'm sure i'll be happy with them for years to come.
Anyone heard the difference in the LSIs with a receiver to an amp? is it noticeable at only high levels, or all the time?

think of a receiver as the Yugo of amps. and your ext amp as a fastback Mustang ;) it'll add balls to your LSi's. :)

Congrats on the rig, sounds like you got a doozy. Very good build for your first time. Welcome to Club Polk.

Thanks y'all.
Question though. I initially had the lsi7s as surrounds, but since my room is not all that big, i had them more behind me than beside me. The problem was that the stands i had for the are 24". This made it difficult to hear the surrounds (they were too low behind the couch).
So, should i upgrade to the 32" or 36" stands, or just wall mount them behind the listening position? i have been hearing that they should be at least 1 foot above listening position, and i could do this by using the built in mounts on the speakers in the wall... any thoughts?

First off, Welcome to the Club. You have an excellent system there. Wait till you hear the Difference the amp will make, it's like getting a new pair of speakers all over again.
I like my surrounds with the tweeters at or just above ear level, I had mine mounted on the wall about 2' above ear level and hated it, I bought 29" speaker stands, placed them 1' behind me and 4' to the side, and they sounded 100x better.

thanks, i'm pumped about the amp. Should be here tomorrow.
as for the surrounds, i don't have the room to mount them that low, especially on the wall. What speakers did you have and how high were they mounted? I was thinking about putting the lsi7s about 6 feet up beside the couches, pointed at each other. The speakers would only be a couple of feet away from the couches.
wt66,
First off, I'm very happy for you. I love hearing about people getting new stereo equipment.
Second, that is a impressive setup that you've got going on there and one that can only get better.(Amps)
Third, I'm jealous that you have a Sony XBR8......
In closing, Happy Listening and Viewing wt66.------BB3

You have the right idea WT. They should be about 6 ft up on the wall & about 6ft apart. Make sure you put the nails into the studs in the wall. You wouldn't want them falling down on top your head!

thanks, i appreciate it. The XBR8 is great, viewing angle isn't perfect, but good enough to me. It seems blown out of proportion on forums. Can't wait to get my amp.

Ok, cool. What about some highly rated wall anchors for them? i definately don't want them to fall on my head, but what if the anchors are rated for 154 lbs? (about 40 lbs to be up there permanently)?

I have the LSIFX surrounds, I originaly had them about 6' off the floor to the tweeter, facing forward. I didn't like the way it sounded, so I bought a 29" speaker stand, which puts the tweeter about 40" above the floor. I like this arrangement much better. Try a couple different ways, see what you like. Having your speakers face each other may make a difference, maybe higher is better in your situation.
Have fun, and don't get too worried about the small stuff, you'll figure it all out, just give it some time.
