Well, a polkie donated a pair of RT1000p cabinets to me this evening. They had previously been stripped of damn near everything in them. There are some wires floating about inside, and some cobwebs, but that's it.
There was a lot cosmetically wrong with these guys and I'd have gutted them too, I think.
One "foot" is missing, a couple strips of veneer is missing from the backs, a cat scratched up some fabric on the covers and it appeared as though some wild beast with claws of steel let out it's anger on that crazy rubber finish on the front panels.
I don't have the budget to restore these back to their previous glory. It would be more money than they pair are worth... About double from what I've seen them sell for, but when buying replacement parts one at a time, Polk's CS is still giving a fair shake, for sure, so I'm not complaining about that. Ken is actually one of the fastest email responders I've dealt with! Thanks again!
That shout out to Ken and Polk's awesome customer service said, I'm not terribly sure just what I'm going to do with these things.
My first thought is to clean them up and get the cabinets looking nice. Once that is done, I'll start putting serious thought into these (and not serious coin).
Due to the horrid state of those rubber fronts, I removed them as soon as they came in from my car... Protip for anyone interested in removing that stuff: it peels off. I had to cut a trim line behind the bevel, where the front attaches to the sides, and then just slowly start peeling the rubber back; it might tear, but it's easy to get started again.
Anyway, wish me luck and feel free to drop suggestions, afterall, since this is my first ever audio project, I'll not be shy asking a sh!t ton of questions!
Thanks in advance!
