Hi everyone.

Some time ago I asked for some insight into speakers and AVR's here in the forum. Some of you suggested me to buy an AVR with preouts, and in my budget of around 500 USD I had the choice between yamaha and onkyo. At the end I chose the Denon AVR790. I know it has no preouts, but I chose this model for several reasons. Amongst others, video processing and Audyssey which I've read are really worth. Moreover, I know this is a very addictive hobby, but I don't see myself adding an external amp in the near future. What I want is to complete the 7.1 setup and add a second zone. This will take me some time, and money of course, so I think I should stop by then. Anyway, I might add an external amp for the zone 2, so I can create a nice stereo system don't you think?

So finally I'm happy with my new AVR and a pair of TSI300, which are very good.

Now my question is regarding the next step. I think the most obvious step will be the subwoofer, cuz I also want to buy a PS3. I think I'll be able to buy these by december. Or, do you think is better to add the center channel? I think the last thing to add will be the rears and the lateral speakers. I plan to buy a pair of TSI400 to replace my fronts and use the 300's as rears, but that will be sometime in the next year.

My budget for the subwoofer is around 300 USD, so I'm thinking in getting a PSW125. The thing is that I live in Mexico and this stuff is very expensive here. However, i live near the border with Texas so I normally go there to buy stuff. Do you know some good places where I can get a good subwoofer in the Laredo, San Antonio or McAllen area, apart from BestBuy.

Many thanks in advance

Do they have a Fry's or an Ultimate Electronics out there?

I suppose shipping is out of the question if your in Mexico (e.g. JR.com, etc.)?

I've run TSI-300s off a higher end Denon and they sound fine for an entry level tower. The PSW125 is an OK sub but the better sub for almost the same price would be the PSW505...which you can get online at onecall.com or newegg.com (249 U.S.). However I'm NOT really sure about shipping to Mexico? They might not do that...

Does anyone else know??

+1 on the 505, I have the 125 and it is a very capable sub, but the 505 would only be better. The shipping to Mexico thing may be a deal breaker though. Do you have anybody in those towns you listed that you could use as a shipping address and then just go pick it up? If you are going for HT, I would recommend that you add a center channel as soon as you can. It is a very important speaker in HT and you will not be able to enjoy your HT to it's fullest without it, IMHO. The CS10 or the CS20 would be your best choices, personally I would recommend the CS20, esp. if you plan to replace your 300's with the 400's later. Good luck and keep us informed.

edit- Why not try calling J&R and Newegg to see if they will ship to Mexico? They usually offer free shipping, but if they can do it, there may be a cost involved.

Thank you very much!

Actually I was looking at Amazon, and they have good prices for the 505, cheaper than the 125. I think they send to my country so I will check the postage cost. However I will need to wait until december, heheh no money for now :o

And yes, I think I´ll go for the CS20 later

What do you currently have for your display and what do you use to watch movies? Do you have a blu-ray player now or just a DVD player.

If you have a good display that can do 1080p, then I'd say go for the new slim PS3 and go blu! The visual component of your setup should not go ignored either!

Just stirring the pot.

Hi Erik

Then I'd say go for the PS3 and start watching blu-ray movies and play some games.

Get a good bluray movie that has gotten high marks for picture quality and I think you will impressed at the viewing experience. Upconverted SD DVDs are good, but a high quality bluray transfer on a 1080p display is waaayyy better!

You can refer to this thread for blurays that have been rated for their picture quality:

Pick a movie from the top Tier 0 section and enjoy being blu! :D

Thanks again.

As soon as I buy the PS· I´ll pick some of those movies, as there are some I haven´t seen. And also some new games that are just about to be released

IMHO, for the price the PS3 can't be beat. I have one and still consider it the centerpiece of my humble HT. You will not be dissapointed.
