View Full Version : [SOLD] Adcom GTP-400

Up for sale is my old friend, my first preamp.

Adcom GTP-400 in perfect working order, 9/10 condition cosmetically, face is mint.

Everything works, including the FM tuner section, which is prone to dying on the GTP-series. Sounds great, dead silent, very neutral. Great for an intro into separates, or an office/bedroom rig. You won't get more preamp for the money. :D

Some pics are in showcase, will get detailed pics up this evening.

Looking for $100 shipped CONUS, or $75 picked up.

Interesting trades will be considered as well.

Thanks!

Crap.

I'm slacking on pics, but bumpage!

Will be listing a few more items this weekend in an attempt to clean up my living room a bit. Have to make room for some more amps. :)

Open to interesting trades as well.

Pics will be up tonite, i was slacking on this because dpowell was expressing interest, and i just sent pics to him directly.

No box or manual, unfortunately. I can ship in an Adcom GFA-5200 box if that makes anyone happy, though. :D

Here's some pictures. There is no damage on this unit whatsoever other than the scratch in the picture. (Looks way worse in he picture due to the flash)

Could be a real good match for any of the Adcom GFA-555 on Audiogon (I think I remember reading this amp was designed by Dan D'Agnostino of Krell).

Both products were in the Adcom lineup at the same time and were presumably designed to work together.

Free bump for a jerk, er uh I mean an awesome guy!

Lol Goodluck with the sale! If you've still got it I might have to check it out when I drop by, that is if you can use this as a stand-alone tuner.

Hmm...I'm tempted to pick this up for the garage rig I'm trying to put together.

I'd been mainly planning on going with an integrated/tuner, rather than separates, but this would work too.

So...this is me saying that I'm officially entertaining the idea of considering this. I'll get back to you.:)

Well, one of you three grab it. Freddy... if it's still here by the time you get here, you'll go home with it, i almost guarantee. This thing sounds good WAY beyond it's price point, and Nik will vouch for that as well. :D

Someone buy it, i don't care who. I'd keep it, but i'd have to find another amp.

I'm thinking it doesn't...but does this have a remote?

Well IF I did walk home with it....I don't think it'd touch my pre's place. Can it be used as a tuner alone? Or will I just be utilizing the preamp outputs on it and hook that up to yet another pre?

I think probably the second. I'll fart around with it tonite and let you know. :)

But if you're just looking for a tuner, you'd probably be better off putting that $75 towards a dedicated tuna. There's a really nice gold-face Denon on Ebay that i've had my eye on for a few weeks.

Nik, do you still want that jacket? It's sitting in my closet....doing nothing at all. Going over to Ben's house in like 2 weeks and I can just drop it off at his place. You can give me whatever you think is an even trade for it (audio-related).

Sorry, but what is a phono preamp? I know what a preamp is, but what is the phono part? Does that mean that it simply has RCA L/R inputs? Is it for a TT?

Thanks

It means it's got the necessary circuitry to properly receive a signal from a TT. ;) As an example, it's got what a GTP-450 does NOT have.

You want it? We can put it on your tab. :p

Turntables are an analog signal, as opposed to a digital signal(such as a CD player). Due to this, a turntable puts out a very low level signal, and requires an additional gain stage to boost the signal before the pre-amp. A phono pre-amp provides this gain stage so that the pre-amp is being fed a higher level signal.

A CDP (as well as cassette decks, DVD players, 8-track etc etc.) puts out a much higher level signal, so this additional gain stage isn't needed.

I'm gonna pass on this for now. I think I'm going to end up picking up an Adcom GCA-510 from another member. I was shooting for an integrated ideally, so it should work very well for me.

Good luck with the sale.:)
