CS10 in wall installation

Hi All,

Could you install a Polk CS10 in a wall? I am limited in my option in our new house.

In case it matters, my fronts are TSI400's.

Hey john, welcome to Club Polk. How do you mean exactly by in wall? If you mean installing it in a cutout in the wall and have the front of the speaker be the only visablepart, I would imagine that would be possible. I don't think the CS10 has any brackets for mounting on the wall, so I guess that wouldn't be an option either. What type of TV do you have? Is there a shelf on your entertainment rack (if applicable) that you could put it on and just flip it over so it is angled up at your listening position? Just trying to think of other ideas. Let us know.

CS10 has a rear port. Enclosing it will likely have an effect on it's response curve. A front ported center would be better in your application.

Here is the scope of the problem.

We are moving and our new living room is longer than it is wide. One of the short walls is a sliding glass door, the other short wall is the entry way and hallway to the rest of the house. This leaves me the 2 long walls.

One long wall is flanked by 2 doors to other rooms with approx 60" in between. The opposite wall has a fireplace dead center. The only think I can think of is mounting the TV (47" LG LCD) over the fireplace, not my favorite but I can make it work. That leave me with the problem of the center chanel.

We dont actually move in till the end of Nov, so all my gear is in storage, so i didnt even know that there was a port at the back of the speaker.

I was thinking about opening up a slot in the wall to "mount' my center chanel, under the TV. The opening would be just big enough to accomoge the speaker, trimed flush. I believe that there is enough airpace in the wall since the "chiminy" is offset, but I am not 100% certain.

I was just thinking, could I mount the center chanel in the high, above the TV, basically on the ceiling and aim it downwards towards out sitting area. Would this work?

Not a good idea. Stand alone speakers do not do well in wall and vice versa.

So maybe the TC265i. Could I mount this horizontal? Will the cones match my TSI's?

Matching tweeters are more important for timbre matching. Since both models use silk dome tweeters, the TC265i's may work. I would contact Polk to confirm though.

That would be a much better solution than the CS10. While the TC series is moreso a match for the RTiA, you'd be fine using them with your TSi.
