I used to use 3 stereo tube amps for 5.1 and it sounded awesome!

I am using a 2 channel tube amp with my Adcom GFP-750 with HT bypass and it sounds great.

What advantages and disadvantages is there for such a configuration?

Cost, one and two...it's HT. Audio quality ain't there from the get go....now, if you are talking hi rez multichannel, I'm still indiferent but more understanding.

Tubes are awesome but tubes just for the sake of having tubes sometimes is foolish.

What if you are watching Concert DVDs?

I rarely ever use my projector for HT, 99% of the time it's used for 2-channel.

All depends. I use a 2 channel hybrid in a system for HT and 2 channel combined and love the sound. I went hybrid because 400 watts of pure tube power will set you back some coin.
