Running two NAD 2200 amps bridged on SDA-1Cs?

Howdy Everyone,

I have found a pair of NAD 2200 amps not too far away for a pretty darned good price. I've heard good things about these amps, what do y'all think of them? Also I see these amps are bridgeable to 400 wpc, so I was thinking I could run the pair bridged to my SDA-1Cs. Obviously if I did so, I would be essentially running two mono amps to the 1Cs and these would not be sharing a common ground, so I would need to run an A1A to do this correct? Is there anything I am missing or should know about here? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Do your 1C's have one or two pairs of binding posts?

If you have two pairs, and the amps are common ground, you can vertically bi-amp them without the need of a A1A.

1Cs have 1 pair of speaker post.

You will need an A1A provided your 1Cs are in the range of serial numbers that will support that.

Thanks for the advice. My 1Cs do only have the single pair of speaker post. Do you happen to know off hand what that range of serial numbers that will support an A1A is?

The owner thinks they are about 14 years in age, even though he very rarely uses them. He's actually a member of CP, though he very rarely post on here anymore. He also owns a set of SDA SRSs and a nice pair of Anthem Hybrid amps.

I don't but if you do a seach here you should be able to find it or ask someone with the SDA Compendium

IMO, bridging is more hassle than it's worth.....I doubt the power increase is really needed.

Just a quick note pertaining to bridging amps. Most amps that are 4ohm stable are only 8ohm stable when bridged. The NAD claims to be 2 ohm stable so it would work in this situation. Also most amps don't sound as good when bridged.

The cable is called the AI-1

Left SDA 1C #5975 or greater to use an AI-1
Right SDA 1C #6001 or greater to use an AI-1

Bridging amps isn't all it's cracked up to be and not worth the effort. I run my 1C's with 30wpc, more than enough unless you want to ruin your hearing. I have better dynamics both macro and micro than I did with 125wpc.

Also note: Some early units of SDA 1C's and all units if SDA 2B require plug adapters and some internal modifications to the x-over to be used with the non-common ground Amp Interphase (AI-1). The affected SDA 1C's can be identified by the following serial numbers

Right Channel #6001 thru 6310 and #6501 thru 6678
Left Channel #5975 thru 6370 and #6532 thru 6656

One of those would be plenty. I drove some 2.3TL with a single 2200 (which I still have) and it was good for me.

The NAD2200 have a known maintenance requirement of needing some relays cleaned out after they get this old. I had mine done and the tech was well aware of what was needed. Cost me $50. Probably took him 5 minutes and a nickle worth of faderlube.

I agree. The NAD2200 is a great amplifier and it's 2ohm dynamic, not exactly 2ohm stable. You can drive just about anything with it.

Thanks for all of the replies folks. I think I am going to pass on these for now. I know I want to do my 1Cs justice and eventually push them with a good tube amp(s), so I'm just going to save until I can get what I really want. George, PM sent.

Good news,,my experience running bridged was with a pair of Adcom 555's and some Polk 11T's,, it was nasty to say the least.

I ran 1C's bridged with NAD 2700's. It was nice, but then so am I. I ran Carver Amazing Originals with bridged NAD 2700's, it was not nice, but then neither am I.

I ran Carver Amazings with a BAT-VK500 it was nice, actually very nice, but then,,,,,,well, you already know.

I ran Carver Amazings with BAT-VK120 tube amps, its was even nicer, but then....gotcha...
