I know nobody has heard this album yet 'cause it comes out on the 11th of this month.

However, a few singles hit iTunes a couple weeks ago and they have been making the rounds. I heard "Chasing Pirates" on the radio this morning and it's got a real catchy hook. A nice video too.

Here's the video.

This new album is supposed to be a departure from her jazz stuff. I haven't heard much of the album from what's readily available on http://www.norahjones.com it seems pretty good.

I like her new look too. Very contemporary but simple. Makes it hard to believe that this is her dad:

She does look good, and I'm sure she'll do great on this new style/genre.

Like it or don't like it, I don't care. It's Norah Jones. She's a solid and raw talent but still not everybody's cup of tea. But she seems to have perfect pitch and is quite easy on the eyes. With the quality production behind her music, she's quite pleasing to listen to and just as pleasing to watch perform.

If you don't like her, great. I'm not a Norah Jones nut but I'm a fan. I think the music world would be less interesting without her.

My friend Walt played the trombone bit on Sinkin' Soon. Didn't know she had another album coming out, but now I'm wondering if he's on this one too. :)

Catchy tune. And I agree, she's very attractive.

I was a little nervous at first but the song did grow on me. Her look is a pretty fairly big leap and I'm digging it.:D

Gotta love analog. Sounds great and works for me doing the vinyl to CD transfer thing. My conversions sound better than many factory redbooks, plus it's a good way to preserve the record.

How do you do the conversions?

Someday I have to figure out the analog to digital conversion process. I've got hundreds of albums that will most likely never be released in the digital format.

It's easy Doug! Next time you are down this way, I can show you the process.

Norah gets playtime here, both digital and vinyl.

How do you do the conversions?

Simple stereo patch cord from my receiver's headphone jack into my PowerBook's mic input. And Audacity.

The software is free, John. Here's the linky if you want to play with it. Works pretty much like a standard recorder. A little practice and you'll be on your way.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/

For noisy LPs, ClickRepair can clean those up. This software costs 40.00, but it's worth the investment. kagi will give you a 21 day, free trial for this software.

Cheers,

Mike

Reported post #18, ashlinscri.

Once you have it recorded onto your hard drive, you can separate and export the tracks, then burn them to a disc with whatever software your using. I'm an Apple user, so I use Toast Titanium. For Windows, I believe the most common burning software is Nero.

I use an enhanced CD mode when I burn discs. I like to include album artwork and the CD text when playing back. It's pretty rad and the whole process is really easy after you get your hands on the software. ;)

I owe Rich a shout out for turning me on to ClickRepair.

+1. Chasing Pirates sounds promising and I like the upbeat (for Norah) beat. I will be picking up the CD just because it's Norah Jones but I hope it's better than Not Too Late.

Thx for the heads-up.

LOVED her in the past. Not a fan of the new album. The arrangements don't do her vocals justice.

Her first album was amazing. The 2nd was good but a little weak , the 3rd was kinda boring and weak. I'm still gonna pick it up to listen. She is very good.

My vinyl of this arrived today! Unfortunately it's going to be later in the week before I get it cleaned and ready to play. That's the advantage of CD's ..... quick gratification!

If it's brand new why do you need to clean it?

dkg999
11-16-2009, 08:55 PM
Because I'm just slightly less anal about cleaning my vinyl than Hearingimpaired! I've found new vinyl needs cleaned almost as badly as used vinyl. It's amazing how quiet you can get a new vinyl record to be with a good cleaning with an enzyme cleaner to get all the release agent and other goo out of the grooves.

OK, couldn't wait! Cleaned the vinyl and have it playing. The mastering on the vinyl is very nicely done. Lots of depth and weight to the soundstage. So far after playing side 1 I have to say I really like the new direction. It keeps the good from the old style and pushes her some new directions lyrically and musically.

Got my vinyl copy in the mail today. Couldn't wait to spin it. It's still very much Norah, with an upbeat folk/rock flavor. I enjoyed it.

Just finished spinning it again. This is a good album....Listen to the lyrics on Man of the Hour. They're also printed inside the album's gatefold cover. I love it! :D

If you want to hear Norah at her best get Peter Malick's New York City with Norah Jones. She was born to sing the blues, not jazz.
