Yamaha hasn't made much worth drooling over in decades.

Very similar to the RX-V863 except the watts. I really liked Yamaha and still do, I had the RX-V863 for a few months but then a good deal on the Pioneer SC-07 popped up that I had to pull the trigger on then I had to say goodbye to the Yammie.

Spec's look good, Yamaha makes solid performing receivers but I feel they feel a little behind over the last 5 years. There sound quality isn't the same or as good as it was , Menu systems and setup is cluttered , There overall built quality isn't as good as it used to. I could go on but I think you get my point.

For 1400.00 retail , I know a few others that are much better. If your considering this check out others first.

Reading up on some info about this now. It appears to offer quite a bit of bang for the buck.

Nah, I'm pleased with my 2 channel RX-797 and Sound Projector for HT. I subscribe to Yamaha's website and they send me updates on new gear from time to time. Just passing this along. I really like the vintage Yamaha equipment from the 70's. I agree, they don't make em' like they used to.

Keiko,

We kind of figured that out from your Vintage equipment. Wer're all fan boys in a way....I kind of like AVRs Onkyos for example....but prefer Harman Kardon for lower end stereo receivers...

And I guess most of us are Polk fan boys to some extent, or we wouldn't be here!

Haven't really heard any new Yammies in a while....but I do own a Universal DVD/CD/SACD player that's a Yammie and served me well as an office machine along with my Polk TSI-300s in that room.

I have to agree my first yamaha was not there best one but still was not even close to being impressed with it. Now my cheap pioneer I have right now much better. :) Can not wait to see what this puts out VV

Those look nice, coolsax. If the seller will let you listen first before buying, that would be best. Let your ears decide. I really like the CA series of integrated amps with tuners.

I love Yamaha's HDMI implementation. I tried Denon and Onkyo first, and while I had no HDMI problems, switching between sources, or going into the menu's was like slow motion with at least 5 seconds of no pic or sound. I've read similar things about other brands. The Yamaha is instant, at least with the RX-V1800. You wouldn't think that would be a difficult thing to achieve.

Hopefully someday someone will come out with a separate pre that works as well.

in your opinion do you think the local ones are worth that price? the 3rd seller is right that particular one sells for $400 a pop per recent sales on ebay but i have no idea about the other two.. would they be worth 150-170 if mint do you think?

I have the V1800 and do experience delay in HDMI switching - especially when using my cable STB for HD channels.

Was there any 'tuning' you did via setup to make the HDMI switching (handshaking) quicker?

Thanks!

Prices seem fair. I believe audiogon has a blue book value list for pre-owned equipment, but you need to be a member. Maybe someone can look those up for you. I did find this link that discusses some of this stuff. I noticed a couple posts by our own, mhardy6647. He's knowledgeable, so you might want to shoot him a PM. Hope this helps.

The only "tuning" I did was set audio to "HDMI" rather than "auto". I don't have a STB, just three disc players. Could you be talking about the delay some STB's have when going from SD to HD channels?

I do notice my HDTV takes a second or two to lock onto HD channels, but that has nothing to do with the 1800.

Don't say the "E" word.

BTW, Steve...Those transfers I sent you were done off my Yammie and monitored from my NS10M. :p :D ;)

I am a new member to club Polk and have been slowly piecing together my first system. Shopping recent deals at Newegg for Polk Speakers. Read these reviews and liked the features of this unit but seemed out of my price range.

Found coupon code that further reduced current price good through 6/14/2010 at Newegg for this unit at $699. Has a lot of features for that price and am excited to begin my setup next week.
