Well... my parents got had into buying a new 50inch Plasma http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001THBKQG

So my mom always leaves the tv on for days at a time and falls asleep with it left on at night, im trying to tell her she can't do this anymore with a plasma because of image burn in.

For those of you with a plasma, is this still a high concern? What can I do to prevent this?

One more thing, do they make cheap HDMI splitters that can send the signal to both the projector and plasma so we dont always have to switch the cables by hand? My receiver is kind of old ( non HDMI )

well burn in is not as bad as it used to be and most plasmas now have features that help eliminate the retention by using moving lines and images. If its not burnt in too much simple tv usage should also eliminate some of it. If this is such a bad habit for her.. tell her she needs to set a sleep timer on it if she plans to be in front of it for awhile.. most timers can go up to two hours that i've seen. You can also limit retention by using a lower contrast on the screen. high contrast images will burn in easier. Also in regards to leaving it on.. now i could be wrong but as long as the screen is not still or with images that always in one place (ie a dvd menu, video games such as rock band or guitar hero, etc) then burn in shouldnt' be too big a problem.

Plasma's have gotten better as far as burn in, but it'll still will happen if she leaves the tv on all night or days at a time. She should've look at lcd's. That electric bill has to be affected by it runnng so long.

Do you need 2 HDMI ports to be on at the same time? Then you need a matrixer. If you just need a plain switch, then it's cheaper... check www.monoprice.com

+1 on this. I like the plasma picture better than LCD, but if you get a plasma you certainly don't want to leave it on all night they definitely eat power.
