People around here need to grow up. There were two major tragedies in the past 48 hrs. and we can't even keep those posts open because a few idiots can't keep their personalities and angry fingers in check. Geez.

use this thread as a platform to get out the things you wanted to say on those two matters. myself, i was hoping the first thread didn't get shut down because i would have liked open discussion on how this may or may not affect military recruitment practices.

I doubt there will be any impact. The Ft. Hood shooter was born in Virginia, not an immigrant.

How about we talk about audio and less serious stuff? There's plenty of forums to discuss, debate, argue about, fight over the more serious stuff.
Where's that tasteful babes thread when we really need it?

I didn't have a whole lot else to say, but given the initial subject matter of each thread, I don't understand why people can't use a little common sense and keep the personal crap to themselves. If you want to jack each other around, do it in PM or over email, not in a thread where we are talking about seemingly pointless killings of innocent people. I mean, how would any of you feel if one of the people killed was your dad, brother or whatever and you ran across the crap on here. I'm just looking for a little decency from people. There are plenty of other less sensitive threads that you can throw your manhood around in.
I agree with you Bizill, they can be productive. The Fort Hood one would have been hard because it can easily turn political, but I get what you are saying.
Overall, i just don't get people sometimes.

plus such an isolated incident. you're correct.
i did hear commentary on how some if not many will feel a wee bit different toward those of "certain" faith out on the battlefield. you know, who is watching my back type of scenario. so long as this does happen more than a couple times over a brief period, it will come to pass in short time.

I think he was referring less to his race or status as a citizen, and more about the fact that a long time military man turned on his own men and other innocents.

....buuuut, i'm sure there will be those who will remain leary of anyone that may convert. let's just be real about this fact.
...although, had the supposed warning signs this guy manifested in the past been acted upon by his superiors, this would not be in the headlines today. i'd think the military would be far less lenient on matters such as these.

Since he already asked to be discharged, they may have just looked at the "warning signs" as his attempt to getting kicked out since they wouldn't just let him go. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Human nature I would imagine. Where do you place your loyalty? It's a tough question, and without mind reading skills we don't have a clue about anyone. When I was a kid (60's-70's) there was alot of peer pressure on immigrants by the American society as a whole; which, with hindsight, was probably healthy. It tended to weed-out those who were half-hearted/committed about being an American. You had to prove yourself worthy of being in this great country. Now, this country is so busy trying to please the minority, we're loosing our identity.

Not sure how this will affect recruitment, but I can say I was surprised to see hundreds of guys for all branches going through medical checks before being shipped out the same day when I was going through my own checkout here in Indiana. I hope this means there are still plenty of guys with guts searching for glory.

i was hearing reports (can only go by what's announced in the media:rolleyes:) of multiple other signs this guy should have been ousted. i'm just saying i hope in the future real signs of threats will be heeded. i'm sure it's still a tough call on those who must make these type of decisions. i wasn't there to watch his life unfold.

The part that really hits hard for Fort Hood is the fact that they have now had two mass killings in the area in the past 20 years. The other was just down the road in Killeen. What should be known as two smallish towns in Central, TX have identities they would have never asked for.

i hear this all the time. i get what you're saying. but club polk just happens to be the forum i spend most of my time visiting. so i get to know some of you to a certain extent and would rather have open discussion/debate with you all vs complete strangers at other forums. maybe i'm alone in feeling this way.

I would agree Bizill. I lurk on some car forums, but that is just to see the builds they are working on and living vicariously through them. If I feel like interacting, I would do it here. I don't personally know any of you and might not ever, but I do know that for the most part there is a good solid group of guys (and gals) that includes the most random personalities you can find anywhere. Overall, this place isn't all that serious, it just seems like topics like this come in waves. Hey, at least this thread seems like it may last, and I didn't really have an overall direction, I just needed to vent a little.

I grew up in Killeen and have relatives still living there. Yesterday was quite stressful until I found out my loved ones were ok. Anyway, Killeen pretty much IS Ft. Hood. Practically everyone that lives in Killeen is in someway related to the millitary.
I think he's talking about the Luby's incident.
