Outstanding company, outstanding products, outstanding customer service. Truly a high end product for a decent price.
Those would handle just about any speaker you throw at it. What speakers specifically are you talking about?

Anything from Monarchy is worth every penny you pay. Priced VERY fairly and Poon stands behind everything he makes. No customer service runaround either. You talk directly to the man himself if you have an issue. And I bet every issue is resolved, should there really ever be an issue, to complete satisfaction.

Is there a downside to pure class A other than perhaps heat?

Nope, just heat. Some will chime and say heat affects longevity. There is some truth to that but the types of higher end amps (these included) use parts that are rugged enough and well built enough it's not an issue because they are designed to be used in a more rugged environment.
You'll find it'll take 30-60 minutes for you amps to sound their best simply because it take time for the bias to stabilize and the parts to get to their best operating temperature for the most liquid and open sound. My Aleph take about 45 minutes and sounds best after about 2 hours of being powered up.

Interesting... do you generally leave them powered on then? Or do they consume a lot of juice at idle?

Power consumption.
The high bias levels means that even when at idle it will draw more power from the wall than a similarily powered Class A/B design. Class A is only about 25% efficient vs the 40-50 % of Class A/B or the 90% of Class D.As a result much of the power drawn from the wall is waisted in heat instead of being used to drive the load.

My Pass draws 200 watts at idle (for a 30wpc amp) and it's full on at all times. I do leave it powered up if I know I'm going to be using the rig. It will raise the temp 2-4* in a 10' x 24' room.
My brother had the Monarchy SM70's the smaller version of the amps your considering and they ran warm but not hot at idle.
My Pass you can't leave your hands on the heat sinks for more than 5-7 seconds w/o lots of discomfort.
There are different definitions of class A as far how much bias is considered to be classified as class A. Some believe bias set at 2 to 2.5 times the rated continuous output is considered class A. Nelson Pass feels true pure single ended class A starts with a bias of 4 to 5 times the rated continuous output.

Class A is Class A,the question is to what power level can it sustain operation in that mode.

pure Class A operates to it's full output in class A.
