Hello everyone! I have a pair of SDA1 Polk speakers. Bought them in 1987. They need a cleaning and I don't want to do without getting advise. There seems to be a white mold growing on the bass drivers, not a lot, but there's something there. What is the best solution to use for cleaning. I noticed an earlier post that said to use Windex. That seemed harsh and I didn't want to use it until I double checked.

Thanks for your help.

Windex on a cloth or use a Q-tip.

Is this a white ring around the joint between the dustcap on the drivers, and the adhesive line connecting the dustcap to the driver's cone, growing into the dustcap?

edit: like this:

If so, I had that exact same problem. I called polk about it, and what I did was take some isopropyl alcohol and a medium stiffness artist brush, lightly dab and brush the alcohol on the white stuff.

In all cases it was improved after 1 application, but a few of them it took 2 or 3 applications to make it mostly disappear (except on real close inspection). Wait at least an hour or so between applications, so the alcohol completely evaporates.

Start out as light as possible (in terms of how wet with alcohol) but I had several where the white stuff seemed to go the full depth of the dustcap material's thickness and I had to soak it pretty good.

I used Windex and soft lint free wipes and it worked like a charm. Thanks for the great advise!
