No offense, I thought it looked terrible for a plasma TV.

And thats without it sitting next to another, better looking one. I though it looked lousy all on its own.

If the TV is the same one in that link above, the review isn't the best, but take that simply as 1 perspective. Maybe its kick ass, I don't know, never had a personal encounter.

I CARE MORE ABOUT ITS PERFORMANCE.

Is this what your talking about?
Akai 42" 16:9 Plasma EDTV (http://www.costco.com/frameset.asp?trg=subcat%2Easp&catid=79&subid=2341&hierid=3314&log=&NavTop=)
If it is, I don't think its HD. Its native resolution is 852 x 480. I'm sure its great for DVD's, however.
If I were you I'd check out this:
RCA Scenium 50" LCOS (http://www.costco.com/frameset.asp?trg=subcat%2Easp&catid=79&subid=2341&hierid=4117&log=&NavTop=)
This is a sweet integrated HDTV for only $3599. And it will keep its brightness a lot longer than that plasma. LCOS and integrated is going to be quite common in the near future.

Hector - I also could care less about looks, but you asked a question.....we are trying to provide an answer. Is that the TV in question?
Shizelbs/ Chris and myself have tried to find out, and still no answer. If it looks good to you, and does what you want it to do, then buy that damn thing. I believe Shiz was refering to the picture quality, not looks.
Good luck in your Costco adventure.

I did not know that it is only EDTV. I am looking forward to get a "plasma" instead of HDTV. 50" is too big for my space. I can wait for another year for a good one. (probably Panasonic or Fujitsu.)

I was refering to the image quality.

a rptv is higher qulaity than a plasma the olny benefit to a plasma is it is so thin. if you are going for the look get the plasma but if you want the pic quality get eather a tube or a front/rear projector.

I saw a 42" plasma (Fujitsu) at Goodguys for $5000(reg. priced $6000) and pls correct me if I'm wrong about it--- It is the best TV for its size that I have ever seen as far as looks and picture quality.

My question to you is: do you have any AKAI authorized sevice centers when you need repair or services? For the plasma TV type, I think you have no choice but buying the replacement warranty as well when you purchase the TV, may be none of the service center out there will accept service for plasma TV. When I mention replacement warranty, I means replace not repair.

I bought a Sampo/Gateway plasma for under $3,000 and it looked pretty good. I did end up getting rid of it and losing about $1,000 on it because I was watching a game on ESPN for about an hour or less and it left the ESPN logo burnt into the screen permanently. Just thought I'd mention that in case you didn't know, because I didn't when I bought it and I lost alot of money.

that's why I strongly believe that if you are in the market for TV today, stretch your budget to get DLP, the only screen technology that is immune to this image burn-in problem..

I ended up getting a 60" Zenith LCD Tv (D60WLCD) which is also immune to burn in and I love it.
