I got my old Technics SL-Q6 turntable working again.
Remember the small turntable from the mid-80's (remember those good old days?) with the tone arm built into the lid.
Definitely had a high WSF for both the turntable and the records.:D

Replacing the original Panasonic Technics EPS328CS conical stylus with a EPS328ES elliptical diamond stylus definitely made a fine improvement to its pickup.

I'm listening to the Beach Boys Pet Sounds on it now. Sounds splendid.

After I sold my Pro-Ject I pulled my SL-5 out of my storage side of the basement, scoootched my center channel about 4 inches to right and set it on the center channel shelf. I did put a D Shibata stylus on my old cartridge body and it sounds pretty good. It is now my oldest piece of audio gear in daily use instead of my Polks.

The best thing is I do not have to worry about one of my girls or their friends getting into or throwing something into a conventional TT.

Exactly why I got it back in the day and why it and most of my records remain usable. We did the record to cassette tape thing back then, but the sound was always better on the records. We also did the records to VHS tape thing too.

I would also say that the switch to CD's preserved the records, but it took time to build the CD collection.

I found the upgrade to the elliptical stylus EPS328ES is the hyperelliptical round diamond EPS328HE but that isn't a Shibata stylus.
Does the SL-5 use the same EP328 type stylus as the SL-Q6?
Do you have a model # for the Shibata stylus?

Thanks.

I think my cartridge is the original cartridge I bought the table with. It is an Audio Technica TR460E/LT. The stylus is from TurntableNeedles .com and it is an Aftermarket Dshibata for Audio Technica ATN-122LP. It was recommended as best bang for the buck by someone at Turntableneedles.com and was @ $90.00. The stylus body is beige in color, not pretty but it sounds pretty good and it still has less than 20 hours on it.

I also picked up a Technics SL-10 on ebay but it got damaged in shipping and I am still trying to get my money back. It has the original Technics MC310 (I think that is the nomenclature) cartridge on it which held with pretty high regard. It is a low output MC cartridge and the SL-10 has a built in step up transformer that you can use.

Hope this helps.

I've got one of those Technics "cartridge in the lid jobs" around here somewhere. Cute little things. SL-5 rings a bell. I never looked underneath but we have to be talking about straight-line tracking.

Yes and it is supposed to give that design an advantage in SQ.

Dear Sir:

As a new owner of a Technics SL-Q6 Turntable, I happen to not be able to get a Manual for it. I wonder if you would be so kind as to upload a copy of your Owners Manual (and if possible, the Service Manual) for me have...PDF format OK.

Thanks for your consideration.
