So my Stg. Pepper album got scratched and was skipping so I bought the new remastered version (stereo). I do notice a rather large difference in sound between the old and remastered...so I must go buy the remastered versions for my favirite albums (help through abbey road). But I know that there are the mono releases, and I am curious. I have been reading a lot online on which is better. But there were from a lot of people listening to downloaded versions through head phones. I looked through old posts, and I could only find ones from when they were just being released with no really established opinions...

So sound off, in your opinion people, which sounds better mono or stereo?

Thanks F1nut, it just seems on that post a lot of the people were still getting the remastered versions. So I am curious after they have had time to recieve and digest it all, what are their opinions now.

I haven't heard the mono remasters, but I've owned the stereo remaster of Abbey Road for a couple months now and it's outstanding! It's easily in my top ten of best sounding LPs.

Anyone know why the remastered still have a lot of noise? Is it just because taking a lot of it out would remove some of the music, or because it's just an accepted part of some of the music of those times and taking it out might change the feel of the music.

I bought the Beatles Live at the BBC boxed set many years ago; $30 down drain at a time when $30 was a lot of dough for me. Since then I've resisted the annual Christmas Beatles reissue boxes.

Agree....Live at the BBC was a real disappointment.

I like it when a coin stands on its edge.

I have both sets and I hate to say it but I think overall I enjoy the stereo set the most. I suspect its because I'm just used to that sound since I grew up with it. But it is neat to compare the different versions. There are some things in the mono that I never heard before... pretty cool.
