View Full Version : Plate Amps?
I am highly considering taking on a DIY project. The idea is to use some Polk GNX 10'' subs on a completely new design.
I am fairly ignorant however, and have no idea where to begin looking for a plate amp that will suit my needs. Since I will need something to drive two drivers, 300 watts will need to be a bare minimum. Looking for quality, more than quantity.
If I have two drivers, will I need a crossover? Anyone have any links to basic sub DIY projects?
Thanks!
Sean

the olny problem with car subs is they are obtomised for cabin gain in your car to get the last octive so thhey wont sound that good in a ht enviroment. i would recomend 1 wuality 12 or 1 15 if your room is larger.
look at stryke audio their av series is very sweet. 175 for the 12 and 200 for the 15.
or adire audio the tempest is a 15 for 150 and Shiva Mark III is a 12 for 125
you can get a 250 watt amp for about 110 and a 380 for 180 or 228 dont know if it is still on sale.
i have the av15 ron p has the tempest and burdette has the av12 we are all very happy campers
i am very happy but went a little over bord with dual av15

I'm thinking of building a sealed sub with the Stryke AV12 driver. but I need an amp for my mains before I need a sub. The sub project just sounds like too much FUN to wait!
Gonzo,
Believe it or not, the GNX 10'' sub seemed to have boasted more accuracy than the original sub placed in the psw202 I have. Strange.
Stryke Force seems to carry a good reputation. Will check into it further! Yes, I saw your monster sub many of times Gonzo, it looks great.
Tryrrthg,
Thanks for the links bud. I must put on the thinking cap before I head on over to the HTF. If not prepared, that information can be almost over-whelming!
Thanks,
Sean
