Shaolin Soccer ! Spread the word!!!

When I first saw the trailer- I caught only a few seconds of it and......I thought it was ridiculously stupid.

How I can I be more wrong than ever !!

The movie is due for a North American release this summer but it's probably the best kept secret around. The movie's been out for over a year and has won numerous Asian awards and accolades. In terms of gross success it ranks only second to Spider-man in the Asian market.

Best of all, you can buy the dvd right now at an international video store!!


The movie accounts for the rise of some down and out Shaolin fighters who are gathered together to use their talents for a major soccer tournament. But as one person put it, "you basically get Matrix special effects meets Dragon Ball Z meets traditional Shaolin martial arts. Flying through the air, kicking the ball so hard that it catches fire or tears up the earth. The unrealistic and over the top action is what makes it so funny!!!"

It's a hilarious yet at times serious movie, that will appeal to all ages for sure. :) :) :)

I too have seen this movie. I wish I had thought to start spreading the word sooner. This movie is awesome. Its so hilarious. I loved it even when it wasn't translated or subtitled. Its so funny. Watch it!

My bootleg version which is great - it's got anamorphic widescreen and 5.1 DD but no dts. plus it's an edited version - no "thriller" scene and the Vicki Zhao make-over scene is shortened.


What did everyone think of Stephen Chow's performance ??
His moves in the street brawl scene were awesome !! Not to mention the moves that lead up to kicking the "sneakers" ! :D

Just wanted to add, having loaned out my copy of Shaolin Soccer to a couple of buddies from work- all they could say is WOW !!!!! I don't know if I'm gonna get it back now.......anyways

Hopefully Miramax will market this right come August.

That's what Miram-"axe" is doing to Shaolin Soccer. First they edit it and schedule it for wide release in April. Then push it up again to August . Now they push it up once more to September at LIMITED RELEASE with original language track and english subtitles !!?? There goes the summer and kids are back to school. Plus the less of an appeal to reading subtitles !!


If they could put a bit of an effort in it and market this right ! There's hardly a promo out there ?! :mad:
