Mirage OMD 15s are back

I missed the sale last time, now they are back at Vann's ,the Mirage OMD15s in gloss black for $499.00 each. Shoot, they did not have them in stock last week and I have just ordered 2 pairs of RC10 yesterday.

Someone needs to grab this deal before they are gone !!!!

It's an excellent deal. However, the OMD's are very placement specific. You need a pretty large room and need to pull them far from the walls to get a large sound stage. I'm also really tempted but in most small to modest sized rooms, a comparable direct firing speaker would definitely sound better.

I actually know someone who has the OMD15's and had the chance to listen to them for a little bit. IMO, they are fantastic for movies. Their sound field is definitely better than my RC-70's. However, for musical imaging, I would pick the RC's over them.

I am in a "phase" of my life for H/T stuff after so many years playing with dedicated 2 channels audio and your opinion reminded me of the my experience with the Def Tech.

In the 80s, I have tried the BP6, BP8,BP10, BP20 then upgraded to the BP2000s (?) and my ears could not agree with the bi-polar sound even though they are pretty good speakers. I ended up with the ML Aerius I and the SL3. Poor store Mgr of the Home Entertainment in Houston! He had the patience of Moses.

Right now for H/T, I used the six of the SM450s and the CLR2002 and pretty happy with them. Both of my listenning rooms are pretty small ( 14x16 and 14x14)

Thank you for the advice. It's really tempted at the priice point and no doubt , the OMD15s are pretty good speakers.

Don't you think the RCs are kind of roll-off in the high frequency ? I had the RC 50s from Vann's but had to send them back since my old Mirage LFX7s have more " extended high".

I think it's more of a mid range bump than a roll off in the highs. They RC's are definitely "warm.: If you would like, Audyssey does fix this a bit by making the frequency of response flat. However, I don't think it detracts from the sound personally. I prefer warm sound since it's easier on the ears. The clarity and detail is still there. It's more like its character. Thanks for the graph. That's explaining why I felt like having sinus and ear infection when listening to the RC50. It's smooth yet but kind of in-coherence....and lacking the HI FRQ.

Will see how the RC10s get along with my tin ears this week-end when they arrive.

Let me know what you think :) You can also bump the treble on the receiver if you like. Also, after calibrating with Audyssey, I did notice that the highs did increase once it balanced things out

Out of the box, the RC10 is airy and smooth and the midrange is warm but i bit chesty. I love the way the RC10s present the music without draw attention to themselves. I am burning in the RC10 by playing HD FM radio on my Onkyo 876.

As comparing to the RC 50, I prefer the clean and details but not harsh of the RC10. The RC50 is fine in the mid-range region but the top-end is just not there enough for me. I wonder if the RC 30 would be more coherent than the RC50. As far as the RC10, I can tell by first impression, I like them.

This is my philosophy: if thing sounds okay or good out of the box, it will get better in time after break-in period. If thing sounds bad out of the box , it will not sound good even after break-in period.:)

Did you ever try to port plug the RC-50's?

Why not try the RC-70 with its dedicated midrange? :)

And you're probably right... 5.5" woofers will offer better imaging than 6.5" woofers at the cost of displacement.
