So I have an interesting problem that is beyond me. I have a Carver Ct6 pre amp and a Carver TFM 35x amp. My issue is this: when they are wired correctly (yes I have double checked this) the left speaker is quieter than the right for the tweeters. I first thought it was my tweeters acting up as seen in a much older post here of mine. First I tried switching left and right wiring, this fixed the problem, they sounded to be the same level. So I figured i had a bad wire, switched the wires back and the issue was back. Then I switched pre amp to amp connections, issue fixed again. Does anyone have an idea what the issue may be?

Hmmm,, do you have polyswitches? I guess what I'm getting at is,, does this occur during/after loud passages?

I had an AQ Sidewinder go bad from switching out so much gear that when I moved the cables lightly they would make contact enough to bring up the speaker levels. Just guessing here.
George also makes an excellent point about the Polyswitches going bad and tripping out again.

This happened to me just last week... with a set of AQ DB's

Actually George Daniel if memory serves, these are your SDA's from ebay, say 2 years ago. I also believe there are no polyswitches. this occurs at any volume I will fiddle with the wiring and check back.

I contacted AQ cust svc and they told me to send them back with copy of my receipt and they'd send me out a new pair. Great service from AQ btw.

Hmmm, are they studios or oak/walnut?

They were oak/walnut but I did have to replace the tops and bottoms (I think they look better now though went much darker)

I'm trying to remember them,, IIRC these were damaged in shipping to you? One of the crossovers (left speaker) was dislodged, indicating that it took a pretty good hit? Just trying to help you--but,, have these always had this issue,or is this new? You might to change interconnects,,but if you have ruled them out, then I would pull the passives and verify the wiring. Please keep me/us posted--these are some sweet speakers.

I'm also wondering if the problem has always been there, of has it just developed? Is there evidence that a tweeter has been replaced?

The issue with the tweeters has always been an odd crackle. Usually cutting out at low volumes but better at higher volumes. The crossover was found when they arrived up by the tweeters. Ups threw them out of the truck. Sad. This is a very new development and quite discouraging I'll take the passive off again if I must but the wood is getting worn out there.

if you can,, send me the crossover and I'll take a look at it,and put in my 1c's--we'll get her fixed.

That is truly a great offer and i really appreciate it. I got back from chicago about an hour ago. 1st I decided to swap tweeters, so I take all 4 off and switch them. I then powered up, and played Elton John "I am your robot" and Dire Straights, Money for nothing. I was amazed, the sound was good out of both neither was quieter than the other. the other amazing thing was that my crackling issue was completely gone! i will play them tomorrow louder and on more tracks but so far this is the best they have sounded in almost my 3 years of ownership. I wish I had done this earlier

Also George, I don't know if they originally came with polyfill in the cabinets but the left cabinet has the fill up by the tweeters and the right has it behind the 4 woofers, where should it actually be? Thanks

Sorry for the double post

I played more a louder music today, sadly it still has issues, not volume just my strange crackling and cutting out issue so it must be the x-over. I'll probably take you up on your offer at the end of the week and hopefully thats the issue.
