I have the Polk and Sunfire system in Costa Rica for being my temporary residence. I do not want to invest much.
At home in France, my audio system is only MBL. MBL is exceptional. Its price makes you at another level. MBL owners are more discreet in speaking of the system. See the link http://www.mbl.de/de/

Sending this via PM because I really don't want to stir up the Polk fan boys. I think you are headed in the right direction with the Signature S8's on your list of possibilities. I'm a little biased since I have a pair of v.2 S8's but they will easily best any of the Polk offerings (and should considering the price). They also sound the same as the new v.3's. I've heard both. They are a very neutral sounding speakers and have a fairly sweet top end. I really love the Be tweeter, although I've read many opinions that ribbon tweeters sound as good or even better.

I'm limited on what's available to audition here in WI, but you may also want to check out Vandersteen. I've listened to the B&W 802D's as well, but preferred the overall presentation of the S8's, especially at half the price. I didn't care for the Def Tech ST's I've heard either for what it's worth. Take any recommendations with a grain of salt since everyone has different tastes and listening environments.
