- A poor college kid who has an insatiable appetite for anything that makes noise, whether its portable speakers, headphones, home audio, or automotive audio. Ever since I was young I have had a fascination with electronics, I would take everything apart and try to make it better in some way (which didn't happen nearly as often as I would have liked.) It wasn't until I was about 11-12 years old that I became the audio nut I am today. It all started when I bought a beat up JVC UX-T3 micro system at a garage sale for 6 dollars, it was a great little unit, had standard spring terminals so I could easily test out different speakers with it. A couple weeks later I came across a pair of Sony SS-MB100H bookshelf speakers at goodwill, 5 bucks for the pair! I bought those up so fast! I can remember my excitement bringing them home and nearly falling down the steps as I ran to my room to try them out. After setting them up I just sat on the edge of my bed and listened to my CD's. That was it, hearing the difference even a marginally better pair of speakers could make, that was the night I caught the audio bug. That JVC was put through so much torture during the the years I used it! If i remember correctly, I even wired in a powered sub-woofer made by Sharp! All my friends would come over whenever they got a new CD or album from the internet. We'd play it on my speakers and just listen, It didn't matter if we weren't hearing it on the best-of-the-best equipment, all we knew is that it sure sounded better than all of their cheap Memorex, Emerson, or Jensen boom boxes! I have since graduated high school, moved out, and currently on track to double major in Electronic Engineering and Robotics at Iowa Western.
