Lsi9

Hello I was thinking on purchaseing the Lsi9 speakers. My question is how is base response on them or do you need a sub woofer to make it have good base. Does the power port on the back provide good base?

Well, depends on what you listen to. They are great for music and listening, they go down pretty low for a speaker that size. Depending on your room setup and how you position them depends on how loud the bass is.

Movies you will need a subwoofer.

Hello Devilyn. Welcome to the forum. I've owned some LSi 9's for about a couple of months now. I really enjoy them. In fact, I'm going to rebuild my entire HT speaker system around them.

They have very good bass from a "small" bookshelf type speaker. I run mine with a sub with the 9's set to small and crossovered at 80 hz at the receiver. I think a sub is needed to get the really low room shaking bass from movies as is suggested above but these speakers will serve fine duty in a standalone two channel rig also.

Before you take the LSi plunge there are a few things you must consider and this is well documented in the archives here in the threads. The LSi's are "power hogs" and are relatively inefficient and 4 ohm speakers also. You need to carefully select your electronics to enjoy the full potential of these speakers. They also have a long breakin period.

I'm sure others will chime in with similar suggestions.

Most of all, can you listen to some?? I bought mine in the blind (never listened to them). I just had to find out what all the charm was about with the LSi. I haven't looked back since.
