New hardwood bases for my SDA 1B's

Well I decided to finally make new hardwood bases for my SDA 1B's and get rid of the garbage particle board bases.
I used 3x3 oak stock mitered glued and screwed to the bottoms of the cabs
I used some generic spikes I had lying around
Because of where the speakers sit they are on hardwood floor so I put pennies under the spikes to make positioning the speakers easier, the spikes alone sank into the hardwood floor to much
With the pennies under the spikes the speakers slide alittle easier but you still need to muscle them a bit to get them to move
The setup is very solid much better now
Man these things are heavy

Very nice. You can get metal floor protectors made specifically for speaker spikes that function like your pennies but are cup-shaped, so there's no risk of the spike slipping off.

I use pennies. I used a small drill bit to mark a spot in the middle to keep the spike from moving.

It has worked for years.

What is the "point" of spiking speakers to an object that cannot couple to the floor due to it's own uneven surface?

KG, PM me your address and I'll send you some of the base plates. I've got two dozen left over from custom installs where I drilled beveled holes into the pedestal shelves that we built for the speakers. These are from the blk chrome ones P.E. sells, about the size of a penny with a centered tapered hole for the point. I usually stick the sorbathane washers on these to keep them in place.

They look very nice. I have been wanting to do that for my RTA12c's for a while now. How high did u raise them up?

Looks good, I totally did away with the bases on mine and put the spikes directly into the bottom of the speaker.
