I have two Samsung Plasma TV's one I have had for 5-6 yrs the other is about 3yrs old now, Zero Issues.
I also have two Samsung LCD's about the same ages as stated above, Zero issues.
Your link sucks, and was feeble to say the least..
Panasonic - 3.28m hits
They all have their problems, it comes down to how they handle their problems and IMO crapsung does it the worse. Thats why we love Polk in part is their great CS.
I am not aware of crapsungs plasma problems but I am on their LCDs, great picture just went cheap on PS caps and got caught and covered 80% of the problem and left the remaining 20% to spend $300 to have someone fix it. There was so much info on the web about the problem a mom made a youtube on how to fix the problem using all the info she had found. She had no electronic experience.
Man, I didn't think this would turn into a customer service and build quality thread. That's alright though.
The GT50 is now sitting in my house and installed in my makeshift TV room due to remodeling. I must say, the difference between this and my old DLP is staggering. I am extremely pleased so far (only have about 2 hours of viewing due to work and remodeling).
Thanks for all the help and recommendations!
Gald to hear you finally got it and note the screen does break in over time and the picture gets even better.
After it gets installed in it's final location, I will look for someone to calibrate it. I pretty sure there aren't to many options around where I am, but I'll figure something out.
Just a quick question about Plasma burnin - these channels that keep their logos on during the entire broadcast, will that cause a problem?
Try these DIY settings
Plasma burn in is much less a problem now days, but if you have a specific channel with a logo you watch a ton you might want to stick with LCD based tech. Examples might be channels with stock tickers always running.
Panasonic had/has several anti image retention features, pixel orbiting and scrolling bars are what mine is equipped with. No "ghost logos" on my display after 3 years of use.
I own 2 Panasonic's plasma's 50'' upstairs next to a 10' window and no problems!! and 46'' down stairs and love um both!!
I've had my Samsung 58" for 2 years running now and its been fine.
After intence research, I purchased the Panasonic Plasma GT 50" Series. The picture and features are unbelieveable, not to mention the 3D. If sunlight is not a factor, go with the Panasonic. If sunlight is an issue, go with the LED Samsung. I haven't seen a plasma that can beat the Panasonic. Just my Opinion!
i really like my panasonic and think you'll enjoy that choice
Just for the record the sunlight issue can often be exaggerated, my parents have an entry level 4 year old samsung plasma, north and south walls are literally all window from floor to ceiling. I never hear them complain about it and they were warned about it, obviously the best buy guy was trying to sell them a more expensive LED.
If you can buy locally and try it you can return it if you don't like it.
D-Nice settings after his panel prep. I'm very satisfied so far. I would like to see what the set could really do after a calibration at my place though. Hard to imagine it can look much better.
Pan plasma, best plasma set on the market hands down!
plasma all the way!
Well, if you want to buy a Panasonic plasma set, do it sooner than later. My dealer told me that Panasonic will be discontinuing plasmas sometime this year, probably before summer.
i recently bought the plasma TV of LG its just awesome in its picture quality
I have had a Samsung 59" 3D Plasma for over a year and it has been great. LCD just doesn't compare to the picture and performance of Plasma.
IMHO I’ll take plasma over LED/LCD any day. I have several friends with nice calibrated LCD TV’s and the colors just wrong to me. I was watching a football game the other day on a new Samsung LED and it felt like I was watching a cartoon.
Man did Samsung get beat up in this thread.
Nothing beats the Pioneer Elite Kuro plasmas in PQ still. I have the Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-151FD 60" inch and nothing compares in terms of black levels, realism and for duplicating cinema for movies. If something happened to our Pioneer then I would get the latest Panasonic plasma. Plasma still has more consistent black levels.
LCD LED still hasn't fixed it's inherent problem of off angle viewing where the colors wash out when you move further and further to the side of the tv. LCD LED is still fundamentally like a laptop monitor. With plasma, I get the same PQ and black levels from looking at it from the side.
With regards to Samsung products in general. I think they are poor quality compared to other manufacturers (Pioneer, Oppo, Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Sharp.) Only company I wouldn't take over Samsung would be Vizio for tv's. It seems with Samsung in order to get a good quality product from them you need to be their most expensive top end model, and the quality drops off pretty quick down the chain. Where as Sony and Pioneer you get quality from top to bottom in their lineup.
I have a 42" Panny plasma in my livingroom, and a 60" in the family room downstairs. Hard to beat Panasonic, and I get the added benefit of the 60" heating most of my basement in winter
