RT 2000i's (man they're sounding good)

As a 2 channel and the 5.1 , either way these bad boys rock the living room! Not the SDA effect like my 1B's, just a different level of coolness! Just sharing as I figure some of you must have a somewhat (if not killer) SDA set up in your home, as well as another Polk set up that may not be SDA?? If so, I'd like to hear your take on the differences and what about them you like better or worse. I remember a member telling me in one of my threads that one of these nights I would sit back and say "man these things sound good tonight" but he was referring to my 1B's with the new tweets, but tonght I'm saying, my RT2000i's sound really good! Yeah I'd say they're pretty vintage by now. I've never heard them myself but have heard the RT1000i's and remember them sounding pretty good. My RT800i's unfortunately don't really do it for me. Too cluttered for use as mains. As surrounds though, they do pretty well. I still want to get my hands on some RT3000's.

I currently am using a pair of RT2000Ps i my two channel setup... The sound is very clean and focused, but I find the bass to be a bit boomy overall, not tight. If they designed the bass to be tighter it would be a really good speaker. Be careful, the "sub" amps are only rated 100 watts (50 per driver) so it is quite easy to run out of power if you like loud bass. Loud bass will result in amp failures and they cannot be fixed or replaced.

I actually prefer the upper end of the RT2000s over my LSi15, but the LSi15s has tighter bass but it does not go as low as the RT2000. Another point, the RT2000 has very limited dispersion, so you really have to toe in the speakers quite a bit...

I keep the bass dial at around 10 o'clock all the time and a older Yamaha Powered sub in one corner under my left rear speaker and it seems to be nice. Eventually will find a good deal on a nice Polk sub, as I do like to keep my stuff matched.

Hello tophatjohnny, I'm happy for you! I've owned my RT2000's for over 13 years and I'm still amazed by them!
I've recently came across a near perfect pair of RT3000's tat I couldn't pass up and since moved my RT2000's to the rear surrounds... man, It's just unbelievable the way everything sounds!
There are many other set-up's out there, but for me, this happens to work out! I can fully relate to how you've been taken back by their sound! I'm sure you will continue to enjoy these for many years to come!!

Thanks chefkungfu, and if I could find some 3000's in mint shape, I might have to pop it off and do the same thing. The RT's are sure sweet, but they can't compete with the good ol SDA's. The SDA effect is in that class of their own. If I replaced the RT2000i's it would have to be with either a minty set of RT3000's or a fully modded and minty set of the big boy SDA's for my living room. Doubt I'll find either, but one never knows....right?? Until then, I am happy and feel blessed to have the cool Polks I do own, and to have such a cool forum to learn, share and be a part of. Enjoy those 3000's. they look great!!

Tophat, since you're looking for opinions, having owned 800's, 1000's, 2000's, 3000's and SRT's, I can say that the signature RT series tweeter sound is consistent across all of them. Personally, I don't like the RT series tweeter. I was never able to tame it to my liking. That said, they are still excellent speakers. I liked them best in this order: SRT's, 3000's, 800's, 2000's, 1000's. The reason I like the top three is that they have additional mid-range drivers with additional technology in the XO's which gave them a much fuller mid-range. The 2000's were my first Polk speaker and sounded great too but for me seemed lacking a bit in mid-range. Now that I've owned SDA's though, I'll never own another pair of RT series speakers again. The SDA's like you say have such an amazing soundstage and to me are so much more musical than the RT series. They also hold their own quite well as HT speakers..I don't even feel the need for a center channel because they image the vocals so well. Keep enjoying what you have and if you get a chance to get a pair of the bigger SDA's, do it!
