Cool article about Emotiva CEO Dan Laufman

NOPE..didn't say that either..anything about speaker cables..and will not go into that can of worms as i think a set 100buck Blue Jean cables works fine. What i did say pertained to power amps..were i do think...sometimes money talks in that area. I did not say that THE Emo amp blew up that speaker that your referring too. But i have seen other posts on this sight that would point to that fact in other cases.



I did NOT say Emo amps were bad..they seem to be good for the buck. Just depends on what your looking for, and how much you want to spend. Nothing more.

Nothing like mentioning Emo to get the juices flowing around here.:lol:

I could care less, but what stuck out at me more so was the guys love for, chinese manufacturing. I just find it funny that we pick and choose who to hate and who to love while everyone does the same thing by using overseas manufacturing. Apple, Walmart, cars....just as examples. But, matters not, at least the guy is honest in his interview and that should say something.

It was probably just an oversight on the wordage that can lead one to believe that you feel Emo amps are only acceptable for HT. I quote..."I only play 2 channel music...Emo offers a lot of amp for the HT group...which I think is fine". End of quote. No big deal.

How about ALL of the gear in my (and many other Polkies') rig. I'd like to keep it that way, thanks. Therefore, I will never purchase an Emo amp. Also, this is reply is not directed towards you directly naturallight, but towards manufacturers who make gear in China to make it "cheaper for the consumer" and for those who would purchase this gear.

Does this also mean you won't purchase/have any Polk speakers Headrott? You do know that while they are designed here, they also are made in China.

Yes, I do realise this and I have all the Polk speakers I need, currently.

My reference to the multi channel amps was in no way to say there 2 channel amps don't work....

sorry if somebody got that impression......They work, there cheap..if you like them..buy them.

To me... you might as well buy a QSC 500 watt amp......for 2 channel. 10 bucks says they sound as good.....

You have no clue. What makes you think your onkyo is any better. Do you know the markup onkyo products? Dealer price is on their top end prepro and receivers are at least 50% below retail. Spare us the get what you pay for crap. I have owned bryston, classe, B&K, emo, adcom, and others and emo competes. It competes so well that I got rid of bryston 7bsst2 monos, a bryston 4bsst2, a bryston 5bst, a classe cav 180, and a classe ca 151 for emo's xpr series. Are they be all end all. No, but to say you might as well get a pro amp if you buy emo, you are truly fooling yourself. I dont claim emo to be the best of the best, but in my house in my room, in my system, they did more than hold their own against high brands. All of those amps were in my house at the same time and I have ads in the classifieds were I was selling them once I decided on which one I was going to keep. I am fortunate to get dealer price on alot of things I buy and u just would be amazed on the markup of audio equipment. Emo doesnt have a middle man.

Why buy an entire amplifier for less than $400, when you can spend $2000 on a 3' piece of wire? It's madness.

Sorry to hear about the gentleman's UPA-200. I've had this amp for a few days now, powering a pair of Lsi7s. It drives the hell out of these speakers. Both speaker and amp are keepers.

Not to worry, got the new one and I love it. I'm hearing things I've never heard before from the HK3490. The only thing I have to look into is a very soft "distortion" or "graininess" in the mids. Someone on another forum suggested that I plug it directly into the wall instead of my power strip. Maybe it is struggling a little for amperage? Anyway, for $349 shipped, it would be an understatement to say that I am happy with my UPA-200. It makes my listening sessions exciting and I'm fine with that.

Oh JHC, for the last time it is not a bad resistor. The stock resistor is rated at 5 watts and under normal conditons with quality gear it works perfectly. However, there are folks that don't understand how gear works and the limits of their gear, mostly AVR's trying to drive 4 ohm loads. That can result in damage to that resistor. It can be replaced with a 12 watt resistor, which will handle higher temperatures, but can also result in damage to the tweeter instead of just the resistor.

You and others need to stop blaming the resistor, it is not the problem.

Your opinion holds no merit if you have never owned the product. How are you forming an opinion that it will sound the same as a pro amp if you havent had one in your home? I dont like to get into posting about emo here but man you folks who have never owned them seem to have very strong opinions. I was like that as well until I did my own in home demo. Unlike most, I like to hear things for myself.

Actually, I need to correct myself. I do own some RD0-198 tweeters in my SDA's that are made in China by Polk. Other than that, it is all made in the USA or Japan or Germany with a vast majority of it made in the USA.

I'm not sure how to say this anymore....I stated if you like it ,,BUY it....and stated MY opinon is only on what i hear in MY setup...

Those were all bought on the used market. Mark at Reno Hifi sold me two of my brystons. The only amps I can get at dealer price is mcintosh, arcam, and marantz. Not in cahoots with anyone. I am not here proclaiming them to be end all but name isnt everything eiher. I said they competed well and they stayed in my house. Unlike most, I demoed all of these amps in my house at the same time with all of the same front end gear. Thats the only way to know. typical response from some of you on here. My house is open to anyone who wants to come here them. I still have a classe ca2200 here for comparision.

Well thanks for entertaining me and my conspiracy theories, hah.

I've owned Emo amps as well, the XPA-2 and UPA-2. Loved both of them and wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

I won't rehash my whole review from another thread... but after my first night with the XPA-3, I'd say it bests my Adcom GFA-5503 but isn't quite as nice and warm sounding as my Parasound HCA-2003. If my Parasound ends up being a lost cause repair-wise, I think I'm fine with the XPA-3 in my system. Not gonna' run around singing their praises to the heavens or anything... but at the same time, when I listen to it, I'm thinking, "Wow... this is a $600 amp?" Kudos to them for that.

(And given the past treatment of Emotiva products here, I am surprised it took this long for this thread to explode. Heh...)
