Anyone using the new SC67? I was thinking of upgrading my SC07, and wanted to go with either the 68 or 67. The reason I'm thinking the SC67 is because I will be using external amps anyway. Any advice on this. I do need the receiver to pass 4k and 3D. Thanks
I have many thoughts on the SC-68 and SC-67. What is the reason for your upgrade? Did you check out my review on the SC-68? I'm assuming your not doing any computer music with it so going SC-68 might not be your best option. The SC-67 would be a logical upgrade but I'm not sure why you want to right now.

Well, after owning 5 Pioneer Elite SC models I'm finally jumping ship. While the class D amps inside are very good I'm liking the features and SQ of the Denon 4520, Onkyo 5509, and 5010 better. At the same price point these 3 are a step above what Pioneer is currently offering. Don't get me wrong the Elites sound great but there isn't much difference between the sq and features from the sc-05/07 to what's currently being offered. If 3d and 4k is all you're after I'd say save your money and get the oppo 103 which has dual HDMI outs.
I want the features of 3d and 4k, which is why I would upgrade. I like Leroy's idea since my Sony S790 has dual HDMI. Still love the Pio sound which is why I would stick with the same brand.
Forget 3D , Hollywood is basically moving away from this format as it's a huge flop. 4k is right around the corner but there is basically no content. All the Current SC models hadle both formats well.
Again I'm still a bit puzzled why you want to upgrade . Now I can give you plenty of reasons to upgrade with starting with the SC-68 and the internal USB DAC which is fantastic. The control Ap is sweet , more HDMI inputs and a zone 4 HDMI out if you want to share you HDMI sources in another room. last good upgrade from the SC-07 is the removable power cord. Now you can replace it with a custom length and not have to deal with one length. I like that a lot.
If you where using the internal Amps , the new D3 amps sound to me better then the ICE amps of the SC-07. It's not night and day , it's subtle improvements.
The unit is actually a bit smaller then the SC--07 so height and depth you get a little more wiggle room in your cabinet.
My opinion completely differs from Leroyjr1's as I much prefer the sound quality of the SC models over Denon and Onkyo. This is compltely a personal opinion and different speakers will sound different on each AVR.
I think the SC-67 is a nice modern upgrade for you man , it's not a step down thats for sure.
Just curious my good man, why you haven't gone the pre/pro route ? The Cary cinema 12 or Classe 800 are steller performers for both music and movies. Combine any of those with an Oppo 105, and you have top notch performance.
I would love to own Classe or Cary gear. I have the amps in place just need a nice pre. The only thing that holds me back is that it always seems like AVRs are ahead of the PRE/PRO selections being offered. Classe gear looks awesome.
The Integra DHC80.3 is pretty up to date and a fantastic sounding unit.
Maybe in the bells and whistles department, but if your looking for a piece of gear to satisfy you in a system for ht/music, look no further than the 2 I mentioned. Heard a Cary cinema 11a awhile back and was blown away. I could easily live with that in a dual purpose rig, the 2 channel performance was off the charts and I wasn't expecting it to sound as good as it did. I would put it up against many SS and Tube pre amps, it's that good. The Classe 800 is suppose to kick it up a few notches, and that almost sounds impossible to me. Haven't heard it yet, hard to track down a store that has one on the floor.Quote:

Why not invest in a piece that uses top notch parts and has better build quality. How would the Marantz 7701 measure up to these ?
If you want a pre/pro with all the bells and whistles look at the onkyo 5509. A place near me has them brand new for $1699. You're not going to find a receiver or pre in its price range with more features.
