Phono preamp question
After I got my LSiM703's and hooked them up to a Dynaco type custom tube amp and tube preamp I started craving a turntable to go retro even more so and was lucky enough to find a Technics SL-1100 turntable that I'd say is a 7.5 out of 10 because of a few minor scratches and lack of being clean. I polished out the scratch in the cover and got it almost swirl free and a Sharpie made the edge scratches disappear on the edge of the recess the platter sits in.
Hopefully these photos of the TT show up here:
I heard the TT while connected to a receiver and the Shure V15 Type 3 cartridge with new stylus made the LP sound decent through a pair of old Advents.
I'm trying to stay cheap with a phono preamp and found this ART phone preamp at this link:
at Parts Express. It's $50 and was wondering if anyone knows if this will get me going with listening to my old Monkees albums for the time being?
Thanks in advance...Blake
I used that little ART until I got my current Pro-Ject Tubebox DS and was quite happy with it, go over to the Audiokarma turntable page and do a search on the ART DJ PreII, they LOVE the thing! Keep in mind this thing will only work with moving magnet cartridges not the moving coil variety (unless you use a step-up transformer). Everything I've read says you will have to spend $200 to $300 to better it, it definitely seems to be the winner in the budget phono pre catergory.
Thanks...Parts Express is 15 minutes from home...sounds like ill be up and spinning in no time.
