dxi vs db
just wondering if the dxi are the substitute of the db line. or is it a lower line or higher. i am looking to upgrade the factory speakers on my mazda cx9 and my choices are the db571 dxi571 or infinity kappa.
i am familiar with the db line but have no idea how the new alum tweeters on the dxi sound, it seems that they inherited this from deftech.
also i have read a lot that the infinity both reference and kappas are very good speakers.
i will not be adding an amp to begin with nor a sub
thanks for your input,
Only the coaxial DXi models have the aluminum dome tweeters. The component set has a silk/polymer 1" tweeter which Id rather have.
I havent heard the DXi speakers so I cant say for sure. The DB's were very good "budget" speakers. The last generation of DXi speakers seemed to be received pretty well.
If I remember right, the cone material has changed for the new DXi's and theyve gone to a polypropolene for the new DXi's which should make them a little more neutral sounding. If youre just dropping them in without amping them, then Id opt for the DXi's cause while the DB's are kinda entry level, the DXi's were designed for drop in replacement and use with a factory stereo so Id assume theyd work better for your application.
The 6.5" coaxials have a nice feature I like, they have a cap working as crossover for the midrange. Most coaxials dont do this and just let the mid roll off but this would work better so you dont have both drivers playing the same frequencies as much. A 6.5 can still play well up to 5 KHz so a crossover on it can help a lot.
So yeah, Id recommend the new DXi line over the DB's for what youre wanting to do.
thanks mcleod. do you have any idea how they compare with infinity reference or kappa?
I don't really like the Reference line. Way too bright for my liking. The Kappa line is a lot better but still tends to be a little brighter. Kappas are a little more expensive too so if you're going to move up to that price point, there are certainly better options.
kappas are like 70 on amazon for the 6829 cf . what besides polk is out there at thatnprice range? i do not know where to go to get reviews of car speakers.
any help will be appreciated
Yeah there are almost zero places to get speaker reviews. Performance Auto Sound has some but I think they're bought and paid for because I've never read a bad one. Even $100 coaxial are the best things ever.
I'd probably just stick with the Polks if you're just looking to spend <$100 cause at that price point, they're all gonna be about the same as in average.
