Replacement for the tri-lam tweeter...

Well, last night the tweeter in one of my Rt55is bit the dust. No real warning...just a static sound coming from one speaker. I immediately shut down the system. When I powered it back up the tweeter was DOA. I emailed Ken and in his as usual excellent manner, emailed me this morning with the way to get it replaced under warranty. So far so good...except as many of you know, the tri-lam is no longer available and the replacement is the silk-dome from the RTixx series. Ken assures me there is little difference in sound but it is a concern since this is the front soundstage of my HT along with the CS400i. I have read Sid's impressions. Has anyone else had to replace a tri-lam and if so what was your impression of how it matched the other tweeter and how did the sound compare IYO.

I replaced one of my tweeters in my 2000p's. Same thing, no tri-lams to be had. Polk sent one of the tweets from the rtixxx line. I used the tweeter from the 400i and put it in the 2000p and put the new tweeter in the 400i. Sounds fine to me. I do alot of 2 channel listening so I wanted the tweets to be exactly the same.

You can order it, try it out - and if it dosnt work for you, can return it and they will refund you.

Worst case senario, you can pick up a pair of RT35i..

yeah scoure epay.. and see if someone has a busted up speaker(s) for cheap with a tri lam. and buy them. replace the bad tri lam and have an extra to boot. that's what i would do. The tri lams were used in sooo many different speakers of the RTXXi line. might not be to tough to fine some.

I believe I have an used but good 9/10 tri-lam tweeter if you wish. Say $10 shipped to you, I need the find it but it's around.

I could use a little feedback please

I own a Pair of Polk LSi9's and a LSi Center Channel and LSi Surrounds and two 15 inch Subwoofers. I am extremely pleased with the sound that I am getting from the LSi's. These speakers are all rated at 4 ohms and I'm thinking about buying a new Home Theater Receiver. I'm curious and would like to get some feedback on different types of Home Theater Receivers that many of you may be using with your LSi speakers. I may be investing in a new Home Theater Receiver in the near future and your feedback will be very appreciated.

You may get a better response if you repost a new thread.

But I believe must use an external amp with the LSi as most of not all AVR don't do 4ohm justice.

Yes, I somewhat committed I self with a new webpage it's a "Work in progress" thing. It's totally changed check it out.

I had a big problem with a file download, but I zip it now and it works ok. Check that out on the guide page any of the downloads won't hurt your computer (your computer must likely hasn't a clue how to handle a *.Hex file)

Don't know if you found the tri-lam yet buy someone has just posted one for sale out of a Rt600i on Ebay. It is the SL6506 model.

Does anyone know (for sure) if the outer frame on the Tri-lam tweeter is interchangeable? Like to fit a CS245i or RT25i? I have 5 of these speakers in use right now and I'm thinking it might be a good idea to have a spare around since Polk quit making them.

RT25i, CS245i uses the same tweeters (uses screws to mount them)...

The RTi's with the baffles are interchangable, however the RT35i, RT55, etc (first versions, black drivers) have a thinner baffle than the I series, and then the series after that matches the one before...

And obviously now...they are back to screw

I know the mount are different. What I was asking is if you could take the "innards" from one type of mount (say RT55i) and put them in the screw type mount of the RT25i (or CS245i). I haven't taken mine out to examine, and I can't tell from photos if the mount is integral to the tweeter or if the innards are removeable.

The Baffle tweeters use NO screws, they just pop in and out...

I guess you are saying that the mount is integral to the tweeter; ie: No way to remove the innards (magnet/coil/dome) from the "baffle" tweeter frame/mount and put them into the frame/mount of a screw in tweeter.

Not just the magnets, all the innards? Do you not understand what I'm getting at?

If I have a blown tweeter from a screw in tweeter (RT25i or CS245i), can I replace the "guts" using the inner parts from a baffled speaker tweeter (RT35i, RT55i, RT600i, RT800i, RT1000i, RT2000i) and screw it back in using the outer frame part of the original tweeter? I cannot tell from photos if the outer grey (plastic or metal?) part is integrated into the structure of the tweeter or if it is removable/swappable.

Ah, I understand now...

Yall have to open them up and twist them apart yourself - but the dome part of it is not interchangable...
