Who are you? When did you get them?
I have a set of Platinums. Piano Black finish. I got them from the Wood Ninja himself, Our own F1Nut.
He upgraded the stock wiring to 11Ga Cardas, and the binding posts to gold plated Cardas. He also redid the floor mounts and replaced all of the woofers with OEM replacements.
They are being driven by Carver Silver 9t's, fed by a VTL 2.5 tube pre with a Luxman tube output CDP.
But I owe it to you for getting them...
Edit: I think I've had them for a year and a half...
Ebay, from a guy in south amboy. one pick up truck ride later, they were in my house.
glorious speakers, pain in the ass to place though, and any weakness in the recording or your set up will leap to the forefront with these things. but when you get em spot on, its worth it.
down the road, I'm gonna try to get another 4.0t amp to do the bridged mono thing you do. My bass just doesnt present itself like the demo at your house, and I figure twice the power has to have something to do with that. My bassment has alot to do with that do. horrendous layout, but all will be good when I put my theater in the basement and get these in the livingroom. placing will be easier there
he ribbons, of course, or glorious. wide open soundstage. especially great for music with horns. downright stunning. Glad I heard em, then found em, then bought em.
I bought mine after some guy labeled GG kept talking about them. Got them, auditioned them at work in several rooms, took apart to upgrade the xovers and haven't spent any time on them since. Just ran out of time. Still awaiting upgrades.

ALS III's since mid-December, they were Troy's fill in for the "Originals" until the AR-9's came along.
Everything i could want in a ribbon plus the smaller footprint. Gorgeous with acoustic instruments and giant when called on to play classical.
Running with Dodd ELP pre, Carver A500x amp, and newly aquired Denon dvd2900 uni-player front end.
I remember those alsIII's from the pic, they look like there in great shape
Just post when you got them. I know you're all proud of them, and the wonderful stuff you have them being driven with, and the preamps that feed the amps, and the cd players that feed the preamps, but just state when you got them. The only person to state when they got them was DAGLJAM6. It's not that hard.
South Amboy. I'll have to relate a very recent story........later.
If you don't own a pair of these, please feel free to NOT add to this thread in any way, shape, or form.
I have a pair of Amazing Platinum MkIVs.

A model response.

Feb '06. :D
AL III's (oak) & AL III+'s(black) (now at Rich's house) since November 05.
Upgraded the woofers on both pairs.
AL III's have Infinity Perfect 10's
AL III+'s have Infinity 1040 Refs.
Rich has replaced the internal woofer wire on both for me to Cardas 11.5
Nice improvement.
Still looking to get a Clearview external crossover but Rudi Blondia seems to have vanished :(
amazings platinum mk4. got them oct 05.
Old thread bump--I know--not sure if it had a specific purpose or not but what the hey...
Got my Carver Amazing Platinum Mk IV's from Lou (ohskigod) just over a week ago (Oct 2010)
:biggrin::cool:
Platinums bought in 2006.
AL III plus about two months ago.
4 yr old thread bump for the win. new Plat ownership does that to folks :D
yeah, I miss them, but happy with my set ups as is, those LSi9's are sitting pretty on the Anthem tube gear at the moment, giving the Rogers a rest.
Drove an insane distance and bought a pair earlier this summer in mint condition from the original owner, complete with manual, packing and boxes. Mine are the oak finish Platinums. Amazing is the right name they were given when powered properly with good upstream gear. Upgraded the caps shortly after getting them. The detail and soundstage is truly spectacular.
I know I sold mine to Bob McG and they were picked up by another Polkie at some point......who was that? Ohskigod???
Nice resurrection of an old thread.
I have a set of Oak ALIII's and Black ALS Plats.
